I liked this one. It is very reminiscent of Gabaldon's American books in the Outlander series, but there is enough of a difference to keep it interesting. I will definitely continue on in the series, because the characters are entertaining and this is fairly intelligent brain candy reading.
for a 900+ page book this was a surprisingly quick read. not sure if I'll read the rest if the series yet though.
Meh....I wanted to love this book. But I didn't. I thought it will fill the void left, while waiting for the next outlander book. It was not a deep enough story. There was not enough passion in this book. The book wants to be outlander, but it is far from the mark.
Although this doesn't have nearly the depth, range, strong characters nor overall yumminess of Gabaldon's Outlander, it is worthy. I enjoyed the story and will continue on with the series.
There is a lot of melodrama and improbable plot twists, but it was an entertaining enough read.
I had a hard time getting past the obvious influence of Diana Gabaldon and Outlander in this book. It seems like this author loved that series, as do I, and set out to recreate its magic, which she vaguely succeeded in. The story was absorbing enough and she brought the time and setting to life, but something was lacking in the characters. I didn’t fall in love with Nathaniel or want to be Elizabeth. I actually enjoyed the secondary characters of Curiosity, Falling Day, and even Hannah more than the main characters. That said, it’s a good solid historical fiction novel and I will probably seek out the next one. Fans of Outlander who have this recommended to them as I did, read and enjoy but try not to compare.
What an amazing story! Can't wait to start the next in the series!!!
I was gifted this book by a friend who knew I was an Outlander fan. This book has all the passion, charm and history you would expect from historical fiction and more. Claire and Jamie are by far one of my favorite fictional couples, but Elizabeth and Nathaniel are a very close second. I can't wait to read the next five books in the series and see where their story takes them.
This will not be the perfect book for everybody, but it is mine! The perfect combination of history, love, and Last of the Mohicans. It was a fun read. My favorite part of the book is details. The author pays attention to the smallest details and it really sucks you in. The only plot problem was the lack of detail in the main character, Elizabeth's, mother. I kept waiting for her to bring her into the story. Even though she was deceased there was a hole there. I am thinking there is going to be a book about the mother.
