I'm working on reading some of the NYT best 100 books of the 21st century! And I took a class on Ferrante so figured I'd start here. This was a very well-written book obviously. I think I would've related to it more if I was also a depressed single mother but we really just wallowed in that depression/mania for a long long time here

another one that i read in a day. as millions of mentioned, pairs well with domenico stranone's ties, but the anger of this one and the despair is more palpable than in ties, thought the subject matter is almost exactly the same. when you read this book, it feels as though you become olga herself, lost in her anger, her selflessness and selfishness, her indifference towards her children and anyone else who crosses their path., and the static of the telephone manages to be not to heavy handed a metaphor because of how much isolation you feel as you read this book. a review i read compared it to medea, and i actually think that would be a very interesting pairing, euripedes' medea and this book. wish i did that in high school when we read medea

To be fair, I would also lose my mind if this happened to me.
