Well-written, with some chilling sections about the faulty economic reasoning behind bitumen extraction and the way PM Carney used to speak out about climate change’s risks to economics. (Wonder where that guy went.) I don’t love the action-hero depictions of the guys who snuck into evacuation areas for their fucking motorcycles but it doesn’t surprise me.

Terrifying and eye opening. I knew essentially nothing about Alberta and this fire and the human stories were gripping. I got a bit bogged down & depressed by the later climate science sections but would definitely recommend.

Engrossing read. Climate science section dense and depressing.

Very interesting book, ideal to introduce someone to the dynamic challenges that climate change will give us. Was familiar with some stuff, but the expected learning curve, interspersed with first-hand accounts and the general timeline of disasters made reading it easy. The only unneccessary thing was going into much more (not as much as the main incident) detail on some other fires (The guy who survived the fire vortex in his pickup and then below a cat shovel was interesting, but did not add anything but pages to the book).
