I'm still into the series, but boy what a book filled with jumping around from place to place just to talk about what the next place is that they should go! It felt like it wasn't until the final Dragon temple that we actually saw everyone doing something rather than just showing up somewhere to meet a new person who would say, "Oh, you need to go to this place," and then they'd go to a new place where someone would say, "Oh, you need to go to this place." The whole story would have benefitted from more action and less exposition. Like it was crazy to me that we went into the titan games but we didn't see anyone fight in them for more than one quick fight. And none of the main characters really participated! There were so many new and fascinating places in this book that I'm just bummed that we didn't really see the main characters participate in those places beyond chatting with someone who would give them a bit more info.

Everything is start to add up and I'm here for it. It's all coming together. The stakes are higher, the lorr is deeper and developments are more exciting.

One of my biggest criticisms for this series is how prominent gender stereotypes are. But occasionally, we do also see characters who defy them. They aren't a majority though, which might bother some (more than it does me).

A trope that is featured in this series that I do love however is how adults don't play big roles in showdowns. Sometimes they are conveniently occupied otherwise. I love that the author knows the kids are the heroes; because they are. We still see many creatures and adults undermine the protagonists, but eventually they realise exactly who they are dealing with.

I'm aware this is a review for a 4th book in a 5 book series, so chances of anyone reading it are slim. If you are reading this and you haven't read the first three books then ???

Anyway. I'm really excited to jump straight into the finale! No one does middle grade like Brandon Mull!

So freaking good!!

This book meet every expectation and more. As with all of the fablehaven and dragonwatch books, I was enthralled from start to finish. I have always really liked Seth's character, and his development through this series, and this book were so satisfying, and even relatable. His potential for evil, his struggles with curiosity and impulsivity, I think, makes him more relatable than Kendra. Can't wait to read the next one!

Once again, Brandon Mull nailed the strange and awesome mechanics of the fourth book in the series! There is enough time to have set up the world, and so multiply them fascinatingly against each other. I don't know if I made what I meant clear, but it's a really good book. Lots of giants, and kings. And magic and wings. Would recommend.
