Seriously gross and messed up book with beautiful writing. Really interesting commentary on masculinity in teen boys and the failings of adults.

a wild ride, loved it for the most part! 4.5

it definitely seeks to gross you out, and succeeds here and there. but yeah, ew.
also what the fuck was that about, with the cat and the turtle... literally had to flip past it. no part of me could enjoy reading that, just.. weird.

story was excellent though, as well as the writing — but I couldn't give it a stellar✨ review for the reasons above.

Ill try to write reviews just to leave my thoughts about it somewhere, this is for me only tho so dont expect much of these to make too much sense.

You know for a book that is in everyones list of "horror books you HAVE to read" this fell really flat, many times it tried to push past the limits of grotesque, enfasis on tried because it never managed to do it. Solid start, and then it got weirdly boring, didnt give a shit about 4 of the 5 kids;
kents death was the best from a horrifying point but the kid was already a goner. Was I supposed to give a shit about Eef? Newton did hurt. Shelley... I feel like we lost the plot a little bit when he got infected
. I dont think theres anything to add... dissapointed because I heard nothing but good things about this book, dont know why, its pretty forgettable

also did nick cutter really ran out of ideas on how to infect the kids that he used the urethra resource twice??
