Oh my. This is the most disgusting book I've ever read. I'm not really squeamish when it comes to body horror but this … this was on another level. I will never not feel alarmed any more when I'm super hungry.

That being said, apart from the great body horror, The Troop hasn't that much to offer which would make it an outstanding book.
The plot is really simple and lacking a satisfying conclusion. It downright drags on at times and its suspense is entirely building on the gore scenes and relying on shock factor.
The characters are mediocre at best, but calling them stereotypical clichés wouldn't be that far from the truth either.

Is it worth the read? Sure, if you're looking for a quick, old school horror tale with a lot of body horror and gore and don’t mind the occasional stupidity that comes with such stories.
But if you're expecting a masterfully woven, suspenseful horror novel, The Troop is the wrong choice for that.

what the FUCK did I just read

Don’t eat while you read or listen to this book.

Enjoyed the narration of the audiobook greatly. I had no business reading this book. Had I known the extent of the body horror, which is my own fault for not reading reviews, I would have shied away.

It was, however, horrifyingly well done.

Fucking hell

I don't know if I quite have the words for this book. It's absolutely chilling and feels like it'd make for an INSANE movie adaptation.

All the characters come to life in such a true, distinct, individual and realistic way. This both feels like fantasy but also feels like something that could scarily happen in real life.

The only thing I really have issue with is the repeated mention of one child in a sexual manner and while I know it's meant to be gross and uncomfortable, having me, the reader, visualize the child in that way is a step too far. Simply mentioning it and leaving the details up to our imagination would have been fine because of course kids get up to things, but talking about the experience in detail feels excessive for a kid.

honestly!
i am bewilidered. what the ef did i just read? so much gore. gosh this book is dark but at the same time i am not sure whether i liked it or didn't. it was something i haven't read before and i was shocked (surprised would be too light of a word)!
would i recommend it? at your own discretion! it is very unsettling and overwhelming! kinda triggering too.
would i be reading more from nick cutter? heck yes!

still cannot decide upon a rating, sorry!

Screaming crying throwing up. It’s like he opened my brain and found all of my worst fears and put them on paper. I feel hollow now. Amazing.
