This was one of the grossest books I have ever read, and that’s saying a lot! Cutter is truly great at body horror, to the point where I wouldn’t recommend this book to many people. And every time you think things couldn’t get worse, or more depraved, he some how adds in twists that I repeatedly didn’t see coming. I’d put this up there with Haunted by Palahniuk or some of Tony Burgess’s stuff in terms of books I love but made me physically nauseated. While I’m super excited to read his other novels, I think I need a break from spooky stuff after this one.

This book is absolutely FUCKED… and definitely not for everyone. There were pages that were hard to read and still haunt me. I will never look at worms the same

Not for me— I did enjoy the scientific prologues to each chapter but the book itself was a little too overly masculine and rip off Stephen king for me

Very much body horror, THE TROOP is not for the faint of heart. That said, it is utterly believable, making it all the more horrifying. It manages to capture the youth dynamics of King’s “The Body,” but it is its own thing. Worth the read/listen—just not while eating.

Prenant, haletant et juste ce qu'il faut de dégoûtant.
L'inspiration de King est indéniable mais pas dérangeante.

10/10 worm induced anxiety
8/10 male friendship and exploration of adolescence
3/10 three extended scenes of animal abuse
0/10 worms crawling up… places

Definitely enjoyed this one, and it absolutely grossed me out. A good quick read that leaves you thinking

This book was something else. I was seriously disturbed a good chunk of the time while reading, but I couldn’t put it down. A very simple thing turned nightmarish I’m very quickly.
