Synopsis:
Basically, World After is the second book in the Penryn and the end of days series by Susan Ee. It follows the events that happened in Angelfall, but now with a lot more action. If you haven't read Angelfall, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? Get on that.
Thoughts: Some Minor Spoilers if you haven't read the book yet! But I don't go into too much detail about the scenes.
Where do I begin.
Penryn is an amazing character. She doesn't need a male to come and save her ass. She's the one who saves theirs. Watching her face what she does in this book is incredible. From what happened to Paige and how it took Penryn a while to see beyond the physical aspects and deformities that she was put through; to see that Paige is still her little sister inside. But now is a little more kickass.
Penryn, as we know, was worried about Raffe's whereabouts, but she didn't need him. She could hold her own, and even when she couldn't, Pooky Bear was there to help her.
Pooky Bear. Oh My God.

I conceded to a spoiler from one of my friends about what was going to happen with the name, Pooky Bear. I literally facepalmed when she jokingly called Raffe/her sword the name. But after when Raffe found out, I laughed out loud.
"I am Pooky Bear, from an ancient line of archangel swords"
"How is she going to get any respect?"
Oh Raffe does she ever. That scene was AWESOME! All the blades bowing down to the great and powerful POOKY BEAR!
The scorpions/locusts are so creepy and just urg.

I think I'd have a heart attack if I ever saw a swarm of them fly over my head let alone have one so close that they'd push me into a cage, within arms reach of starving and terrified humans. That scene was horrible.
But when Penryn saw that one with the pants and wedding band and realised that they were once humans... Holy God, my disgust and horror rose to another level.
Penryn's mum. I don't know how Penryn can be able to cope. Her mum is really really... well crazy. The police cruiser scene is really horrible. Well, for Penryn at least. We know that her mum is off her rocker but she literally goes nuts.
I have to admit, when Penryn and Raffe flew over the boat and they saw her mum drawing on the Locusts chest with lipstick, I laughed.
Raffe and Penryn's moments alone are just so... *sigh* I love them. That's just it, I love them. It makes the otherwise horrifying and bloodthirsty book, kind of nice.
Overall, there are many situations Penryn faces in this book, that I would NEVER in a million years be able to come out on top of. This book is action packed but has a hint of romance, perfect really. If you've read Angelfall and not World After, Do It! Read it now!

I give a 3.5. I liked the first one a lot more. Although it was good I felt like it was not as great as the first one. I felt like it was missing something, but it got better at the end when Penryn actually met up with Raffe. Either way I hope the last book ends well.

This is somewhat of a hard book to review. On the one hand, it somewhat addresses my issues with Angelfall. On the other hand, it added a lot more issues. For example, I had a huge problem with the all-consuming haze around the motivation behind everything. Well, we find out more about that in World After, but at the same time, it also adds more plot elements that are left just as unexplained. And can I say that I still don’t really understand WHY and HOW the whole apocalypse happened?
Raffe was a pretty strong character in Angelfall. He was self-assured, confident, and independent. Okay well, in this book he flips between being a cold jerk and a lover. He was pretty hot and cold with Penryn, to the point where I got kinda irritated with him. I understand that he thought she died and that made him sad, but then he realizes she’s alive and like sort of treats her like extra baggage weighing down his crusade against Uriel.
Penryn, however, did become a much stronger character. She was already pretty badass from protecting her family, but she got an angel sword and it just intensified. She faced down a lot of scary shit in the name of her sister and I really respect that. One thing I think is important to mention is that she still showed a soft side for Raffe when they finally met up again. So sweet. :)
In other news that continues to scare everyone, Paige is still creepy as shit to read about. Ee does a VERY good job of describing her appearance and actions – so much so that I had to wiggle to the middle of my bed. I was honestly getting a little anxious just reading about her. There is still that hint of humanity shown to Penryn that keeps tugging at my heartstrings, so I’m curious to where her plotline is moving in the future.
Speaking of plot, this was a little slower than Angelfall. There wasn’t quite so much intense and frequent action, but more of slower character building and then some action at the end. I didn’t necessarily mind because I wanted to know the characters’ backgrounds a lot better. Here’s to waiting for book 3!

Omg, this is such a great book! Though I was sad that Raffe wasn't in it so much, but really overall it's an amazing book!
Necesito el tercero. Por favor, que todo acabe bien T.T
