I thought the Kite Runner was informative and gorgeously written... This one was even more so! I am so grateful to learn from Khaled Hosseini's perspective.

Hosseini does it again. I was afraid that the second book wouldn't live up to Kite Runner, but this worked me just as much as the first book, if not more because he centers the story on female characters this time. I almost literally could not put this down. It is a beautiful, sad, and immensely disturbing insight into the lives of two women living in Afghanistan over the last decade. I would reccommend this to everyone and anyone. I think the whole world needs to read this book.

Wow. This will go on my list of all-time favorite books. Wonderfully written history of the last 35 years in Afghanistan as told through the eyes of two women.

Despite being a depressing book -- as my daughter, who recommended this, told me, don't get too attached to any of the characters -- and one that shows the futility of war and aggression, I found it uplifting because of the strength of some of the characters.

A good read.

Loved it so much!! Def one of my favorite books, extremely emotional, even though it’s set in the 70s it deals with the same problems we are facing at the moment. Very educational but with raw emotions! My heart was shattered many many time while reading this! Would recommend this one to literally everyone, but be aware that there are some trigger warnings such as war, death, domestic violence, etc.

i am not okay in the slightest, there is so so much i could say about this book. for starters this was completely devastating, one of the saddest things i’ve read recently, likely because of how horrifyingly realistic it is - not to take away from the fact that it was amazing & if i could read it all over again for the very first time, i would.
