Picked this up because one of the podcasts I listen to did a joint episode with Weirdos Audiobook Club and talked about this book. I felt compelled to read the book before listening to that episode, so in my obsession to complete all the podcast episodes, I downloaded the book. It was ok, but not great, but now I can listen to that podcast episode and be caught up.
These novels are just plain fun. Love the dynamic between the women. Ready for the next one.
If the first book wasn’t my type, this one realllllly wasn’t my type. Probably a little biased against performance type audiobooks, so my lack of interest could’ve been expected. I felt like this one was so corny, to the point of almost being annoying. The story line was fine, definitely was complicated enough that I couldn’t guess the end to the mystery! It was over the top with constant action and twists and turns (there’s always one more element complicating things), but maybe that’s how these sort of mysteries are?
I found it easy to come back to, but also rolled my eyes at a lot of catch phrases and voices/sayings. The portrayal of the widows felt a little over the top and repetitive, realllly digging into the character profiles of each woman. The book/performance felt kind of tacky. Each time Camille dropped a confusingly sultry sounding “sugar” randomly into conversation, I wanted to stab my ears out

Just as wild as the first one!!
I love how each of these characters have such distinct voices (despite having their widow status in common), and this book cemented in me the same feeling I had watching the show Good Girls - just some friends hanging out doing baddie shit! (While also keeping their households together).
A great addition to the WIDOWS universe!

Although the story realistically deserves 3 stars, widows hold a special place in my heart, and I can't bring myself to give them less than 4. Fun, flashy, and unfuckwithable, they represent the popular glam of the '80s through the lens of modern opinions. The story is quite simple and predictable, but it brings comfort and warmth. The narrators are excellent, and I even found Krystal more enjoyable than in the first book!

There are definitely folks that will love this one, but it wasn’t my favorite. Felt a little too cozy for me.
Fun but all fluff. An easy listen for a drive, fun characters, and a mostly satisfying ending.
