Return to the secret demon hospital, but this time Shade is in trouble. This is a second chance romance between a werewolf and Seminus demon (incubus). Runa and Shade have a history - he broke her heart when she was human and now she's back in his life when they are both kidnapped and kept as prisoners to be sold as parts on the black market. Gross. This wasn't as compelling of a read as the first in the series. I couldn't connect with Runa and Shade as a couple. The Seminus demons are super horny, and Shade is supposed to be so messed up and tortured because he likes a little BDSM. I find the random incorporation of BDSM boring, but this was written during a time when it was popular to include it in any romance. Runa is very put out with Shade, but I never really believed that she hated him. She was all bluster and caved pretty quickly when Shade turns on the charm. Runa also has a secret, and she continually lies to Shade about it even when he asks her point blank. This is past the point where the relationship is supposed to be solid, so I don't understand why she kept denying it until she was backed into a corner. I was pretty bored while reading this and couldn't wait for the climatic scene to wrap it up so I could finish the book. I'm still interested in this series as a whole. Limiting the POVs to the main character would probably help the pacing along. I like seeing the side characters, but too many scenes are dedicated to Jem and Kynan.

I liked the overall book, but the Shade is a piece of dung. He never showed, did or said anything remotely nice or even decent towards Runa. He thought about how he was such an ass and never did anything to change it. Runa was always nice and too good but also annoyed me her lack of dignity and self respect for taking all the crap from Shade. He cheated, lied, kind of kidnapped her, chained her and ran off, got her nearly killed and never apolygized, I hoped he would make up for it after th curse but he didn't.

I really liked Eidolon and Tayla and their relationship was the reason I gave this book a chance, even though I suspected I should not read it because I didn't like Shade and he is a bastard. I was right.

The second book in the Demonica series revolves around incubus Shade, who is cursed to fade away to nothingness if he ever falls in love. That's one of the reasons he refuses to get involved with Runa, a human demon hunter (her being a human and a demon hunter are problems, too). However, when Shade is kidnapped by his evil brother and placed in a cell with Runa (who's now a werewolf), they bond before escaping, which puts them both in even more danger.

Desire Unchained is complicated. It's definitely not meant as a stand-alone novel. Read the first Demonica book first. The number of different demons and supernatural terms could make the book confusing, especially since the story has a lot of moving parts -- Shade and Runa, Runa and her brother, Shade's brother trying to kill his family, Runa working for government demon-hunters, Shade's curse, and side plots involving other characters)... despite all that, the story works. The characters seem real despite the fantastical world they inhabit, and the bond between Shade and Runa is ultimately safe and healing for both of them.

Wow! Just wow! This series is amazing!! :)

As much as I liked Pleasure Unbound, Desire Unchained was SO much better! I absolutely loved this - the love/hate relationship between Shade and Runa was scorching! Wow - I'll definitely be reading the third novel soon!

Werewolves and Sems oh my!

Fun reading! It's safe to say I'm enjoying the series. I find that I like Eidolon and Wraith just a bit more than Shade, so I'm excited to get Wraith's story in the next book. No spoilers here but I will say that the overall storytelling and the way each story is sets the stage perfectly for the next is really top notch.

Seems I actually had read this book but it's ending. That's twice that has happened this week. That's why I like to always mark the ones I read.
The book was okay, nothing great. He cared so little about her in the beginning that it seemed that his live came just because of the bond. And she also gave me a bit of delusional vibes when it came to their relationship when she was human. They were literally fuck buddies for a couple of weeks and she acted as if they were married and he cheated on her. Don't get me wrong, I hate cheating, but considering the nature of their relationship she was a bit dramatic with her love proclamations.

Second great one. I liked this one even more than the first. The answer to Shade's curse and how they get to it was great. Still you wonder if there will be repercussions.

On reread, I listened to the audiobook and noticed that the narrator had been changed. The voice of Wraith irritated me here, too high and almost a whine. Other than that it was fine but not as good as the 1st books narrator.
