Series: Demonica #3
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

When Shade wakes up in a dungeon chained next to his previous girlfriend Runa, he realizes that she is no longer human and they have been captured by the Ghouls, a blackmarket demon organ harvesting organization. Shade quickly realizes that Runa is no longer the shy and sweet girl he used to know and this new version quickly threatens his bachelorhood.

This was a good sequel to the first book. We get a little more in-depth look at the demon world, the creatures within it, and the Ghouls organization. This focuses on who the leader of the Ghouls is and what his objective has been with this organization. The Seminus brothers definitely were not expecting the reveal and each reacted differently to the news.

I liked Shade and Runa as a couple. Shade became very protective of Runa, which worked out for Runa because she has craved that protection. While I do like Shade overall, I didn’t love how he cheated on her when she was human. I do feel that he becomes a better person after meeting Runa though. Runa really changed after being turned into a Warg. She is no longer shy and submissive. She doesn’t let Shade push her around or hide from his feelings. She is direct and is constantly challenging him, which is what he needs.

These two did bring a lot of baggage to their relationship though. Shade is dealing with the curse on him and his drive to help women relieve their guilt. Runa has childhood trauma from an abusive father and neglectful mother. This book focuses a lot on Gem and Kynan, which I really enjoyed and it kind of stole the spotlight away from Shade and Runa. I really can’t wait to get to their story.

Overall, this was a good sequel and a good couple. I can’t wait to pick up the next book because its Wrath’s, and I love a damaged bad boy hero.

Trigger warnings: kidnapping, death of a sibling, abusive and alcoholic father, suicide of a parent, cheating

Holy Crap Batman!!! This book is so awesome. I love how that there are the main characters in this story but you are moving along with the other characters in the whole group too. I love how Runa and Shade have to work together and make each other hate/love each other. This series is starting to drive me good crazy and I almost at 3 this morning bought the 3rd one. :-) Thank you Larissa Ione and for everyone on Paranormal with a Kick to suggest this series.

I really enjoyed this book, this time around. I started reading it originally about a year ago but put it down (not sure why)... never was compelled to pick it back up until a challenge set it in front of me again.

I only gave it ★★★★ because I put it down for a year.

I love the emotional journey Runa & Shade take, I think Runa's anger/love for Shade was well written and not overplayed. On to Wraith's story sooner rather than later.

This book was lacking. Everything fell into place so neatly throughout the entire book. The characters and actions I didn't find believable. The situations were too convenient. This book was over run with what I call eye roll moments. Example: The BDSM scene. He hits her once and she spills her guts? None of it was real BDSM. It was set up to be therapy, but real therapy doesn't take 1 minute. It was just beyond not believable.

I'd heard a lot of good things about this series and found the first book in the series a bit disappointing. Not bad, it just didn't live up to the hype for me.

But oh my goodness was book two a complete turn around for me. So in this book it's Shade's story. Shade is a Seminus demon, which is basically a souped up version of an incubus, but he also has healing powers. He works as an EMT for the demon hospital introduced in the first novel with his brothers Eidolon and Wraith. Shade has a curse on him that involves if he falls in love, he disappears. In the beginning of this book he wakes up chained up in a cell with a woman from his past. Runa used to be a quiet business woman who never really took risks... until she met Shade. But Shade betrayed her in the past and she's looking for some payback. However, she's not the same meek woman Shade tossed aside. Runa has changed and Shade has to worry about more than his health when they escape.
I literally couldn't put it down once I started it. Thankfully, even though it did change pov a few times, it wasn't a frequent as in the first book and I didn't feel like I was constantly jumping around. The characters really seem to grow and I was really impressed with how much better the writing felt. I loved Shade in this book but I have to say I was really surprised how well rounded Runa felt. She didn't have a kick-butt attitude all the time nor was she a clingy and helpless heroine either. She felt honest in her feelings and actions and I was rooting for her the whole book. Now I'm all pumped to read book three!
