Credence by Penelope Douglas
2.5-3 stars

I am going to struggle to write this review. The writing was relatively good. The plot and the story line is a different beast LOL
1. Read all the triggers
2. The main character needs to see a therapist
3. WHAT DID I JUST READ?
4. Actually, all these characters need to see a therapist
Tiernan is the main female character which I mispronounced in my head every time I read the name. Unique name. I don’t normally read too many young adult books anymore as I am 35 years old, however my new favorite Book TikToker recommended this book, so I felt like I needed to give it a shot. I knew it was going to be forbidden, but I don’t think I quite realized how forbidden and kind of weird it was going to be.
As a mom of two, I kind of really struggled with the whole uncle and niece thing. I knew they weren’t related by blood and had never really met before. It was just weird thinking of my daughter being in that situation. I am usually iffy about age gap romance too and even if this has been slanted towards that, this age gap was WIDE.
I didn’t understand why all the men (besides the obvious case of her being an attractive 17- and 18-year-old through this book) wanted her. AND that they were all OK with ‘sharing’ her. And not just a random group of men, but a father and his sons. That part was cringe. There is a threesome involved in this book and the fact that there are two actual blood relations involved (plus, it didn’t seem like their first time doing this), was so cringe-worthy to me. It took away the sexiness of it. It made it more incestuous and gross to me.
I don’t want to give away the ending. I did like the ending despite not feeling connected to the ending. Was this book way too long for what was given to us? Sure was. Did I just want the book to be over so I could move on? Sure did.
I do recommend reading the Goodreads reviews on this book after you finish for a good chuckle LOL

Enjoyed credence what a fucked up book but also funny and silly
Thought I would either love this or hate it and ended up doing neither. Also, is it really taboo if she's not related to any of them and had never even met them growing up? The story had its moments but ultimately I didn't really connect with the characters or the plot.
For all the attention this book has gotten, I was honestly expecting it to be more scandalous. Not terrible but not great.

I've never read something like this- that's not necessarily a compliment. I liked Tiernan at first but then all she did was fkn CRY. Her love for Kaleb is unreasonable, beyond a first love trope. Why would you love him? He sucks. Why does she feel the need to save him, like every woman ever? *Eye Roll*. Having a baby at 21-22 is yuck, imo. The last third couldn't be read fast enough just to have this book marked "read".
