4 Stars!

This was definitely my favorite book in the Chestnut Springs series so far. I absolutely loved Sloane and Jasper's story and Jasper is hands down my favorite MMC from this world as of now. (Thinking Theo might outrank him, TBD). I really enjoyed the way Elsie Silver told their story and how it spanned over years. The unrequited crush aspect was chef's kiss.

I did feel that at times, the personalities of Jasper and Sloane did not seem consistent. Jasper was so sweet at the beginning, and then all of the sudden he's super intense and sex crazed. Sloane was demure, and then ditzy. It was whiplashy in some parts.

I also have to be completely honest, I skimmed over most of the smut because it just gets a little crass. I don't mind that level of intensity, but it seems like a constant issue in Elsie Silver's writing where she relies on intense smut/sex/dirty talk to make up for a lack of character and worldbuilding. She doesn't take a lot of time or page space to build actual emotional connections between characters to make that intensity ... pay off or even make sense IMO. I had similar issues w Cade and Willa's story so I'm thinking it's just a thing in her writing.

It's like they're all sex-crazed demons who live on this wholesome ranch which is disappointing because I think if she took the time to build that emotional aspect out more, I would give these all 5 stars.

Alas.

The third book in the Chestnut Spring Series follows the story of Sloane and Jasper, two friends who have been in the friend zone for years. Jasper, a famous hockey player, has always had feelings for Sloane, and Sloane has always had feelings for him. Despite this, they continue to live as friends, always supporting each other.

Sloane goes through a difficult patch with her soon-to-be husband, Sterling, and things take a drastic turn when truths are revealed. This could be the thing that brings Sloane and Jasper closer together, if that’s even possible!

I’m really happy with the outcome of this small-town cowboy romance!

I'm not going to lie, as a Canadian I am so proud of this author. As a hopeless romantic? I am slightly obsessed with her.

Not everyone can pull of friends to lovers so beautifully, and yet, Ms Silver did exactly that. Like Jasper and Sloane were *french kiss*

Can we also talk about the plot? Like the chain of events were beautifully planned and perfect timing.

It's also nice getting glimpses of the other side characters and Mr Harvey with his inappropriate jokes.

Overall 5 out of 5 stars.
