Tim Ferriss is still an A-word. Plus I learned that he weighs his dumps. I think this was the abridged book which I thought was long enough.

Notes:

To be considered fluent in Spanish you need an active vocabulary of 2500 high frequency words or 5 months of practice, that would allow you to be 95% comprehension. To get to 98% would require 5 years of practice. That's only 2.5% of the whole language.

Even if you're predisposed to being overweight, you're not predestined to being fat.

Fat people tend to have fat pets.

Two reasons why people don't follow through. 1) The pain isn't painful enough. Most people have an insufficient reason for action. It's a nice to have. Not a must have. 2) there are no reminders. No consistent tracking + no awareness = no behavioral change.

The key to getting down the path of being remarkable is to simply act with the intention of being remarkable. If you would just do something you'll find that you get some version of the outcome you're looking for.

The fastest way to correct a diet is to be aware of it in real time.

The act of measuring is more important than what you measure.

A good way to lose fat is to eat the same good meals over and over again.

I guess you burn more fat with cold exposure.

Some scientists say to protect against breast cancer it is good for women to have a full term pregnancy before they are 20.

I came across this on my bookshelf and thought I'd give it a try since I've recently been doing more weight-lifting. I think I got this audiobook free at last year's library sale... and even at that, I paid more than what it was worth! This is such the opposite of the books I've recently read on health, which were very much science- & research-based. The 4-Hour-Body is essentially some guy telling you to try some things he's experimented with that worked for him and some of his Twitter buddies. Ugh. It was definitely written for guys - here's how to bulk up, here's how to boost your testosterone. So many supplements! And the sexism - his chapter on great sex with his "test subjects" was icky like a pickup artist forum. I only finished this because it was short and I wanted to leave what's probably my first 1-star review.

[Edited to add: I didn't realize the audiobook was abridged. Doesn't change my opinion; just explains why some of the stuff in the marketing blurb wasn't covered. Glad I didn't waste my time on an unabridged version.]

The work droned on. Perhaps when it was published it would have been received better, but the author reads narrow minded and full of himself. For women thinking of reading this it's not worth the time but if you want a good laugh at him believing in his " 100% success rate on the female orgasm" skip to about 2/3 in.

Great stuff on food and exercise. The rest is sort of interesting but out of place. If you like Tim Ferriss you'll like the book, if not then you won't.

I like the idea of MED, minimal effective dose - a term they use in medicine. It makes sense, but the application seems to be more difficult that presented here. Also, the 'ease' of slow carb? Not so much, it's just low carb with beans.

OK, he's clearly full of himself, but brings up a lot of interesting points...

I started loosing interest after the chapter on running. In all fairness though, he does warn to not read the book in a linear form but rather focus on what will help you achieve your goal. The finishing chapter with extras also has some interesting topics, specifically on food and veganism. Overall I picked up some interesting ideas and I will experiment a bit with what I learned. I might revisit in a couple of months to try out some other thnigs that didn't stick this time around.
