Welp - this book was not for me. You may wonder why I rated it a 3 star if I say it wasn't for me, so hear me out. I'd probably say 70% of this book was a 4 star for me, it was excellent and very well written but the ending really lost me. I don't think/know if this was properly categorized in the genre sense, but I will not say anything more to avoid spoilers. I also found it just slightly hard to believe that EVERYONE was all a part of this, again, that's all I will say to avoid spoilers.

As for the part of the book I thoroughly enjoyed, it shed light on what it's like to be gay in a small, football obsessed town in America. It was so well written and the characters were so flawlessly written that I thought for sure it would turn out to be a five star favourite for me. This book really reminded me of Friday Night Lights, which I absolutely adored.. until it turned into something totally different at the end. I listened to this book and the audio had my heart racing through a lot of it, but it was extremely long and could have been shorted a bit, in my opinion.

Overall, I do think this is a must read. It is powerful and an important read, but just know going into it that it's going to throw you through a loop at the end, and depending on the reader you are, you may or may not like it.

DID NOT FINISH: 5%

Too much about 🏈

Fun to read while I was reading it because it gets a bit intense and stressful, but then once I finished it I was not wholly satisfied because the horror premise is really really terrible and becomes masked while you're reading it by the supernatural, fantastical elements. And then once it's done you sit back and go holy shit that book was based around rape and, hate crimes?? Fun read but at what cost, you know? And I mean the author is obviously not advocating for rape and hate crimes and it's done in a weirdly campy but somehow not scarring way. It's just a very strange book that will absolutely not go where you think it will or even should. Three stars?

What did I just read?????????

Uh what did I just read? Idk if this is 3 or 4 stars because I have very different opinions about this book in my own head

Can’t understand the low reviews for this one. It was so gripping! So insane! Amazing, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.
