Idk how to feel about this book. It might've been 2.5 stars. It was weird but I was sure I had guessed the ending and it ended up being way different than expected so that's a plus

I have a really hard time rating and reviewing this book. It was good, it sucked me in, it did all the things a thriller is supposed to do.
But my goodness, that... twist. Added half a star (on StoryGraph) 'cause, i guess i'm surprised. But there are certain things i just feel like you can't do...
Switching genres, adding elements that the reader didn't sign-up for... no. Absolutely not. For this to be believable, it has to be paranormal... ? Or fantasy? I don't even know what dream walking/body swapping would be labeled, but a typical thriller it is not.
I've read books that are not my usual genre, but that's because i know what it is going into it. I usually don't rate them, because it doesn't seem fair... i don't know what's considered good for that type of book. But this, this had all the makings of a thriller and that's what we were told it was. And then you tried to bamboozle me. So now you get a poor rating.
I was previously interested in Insomnia by the same author, and now i really don't know that i am. Especially since this one featured so much insomnia as it is, too.

Moderate: Toxic relationship, Forced institutionalization, Suicide attempt, Death of parent, Murder, Fire/Fire injury, Toxic friendship
Minor: Child death, Fatphobia, Abortion
This book was utterly addicting. And I didn't think the ending was a gimmick at all.
I knew about astral projection from a phase in high school where I was obsessed with it and other things like telekinesis and ESP. So I thought I knew where it was going. And I was generally correct. Until the last "chapter". Wow.
I didn't love the characters, and Louise frankly was an idiot, especially in the last scene (what the hell did she think she was going to do with no freaking form???). But I still couldn't turn off the audiobook. Got a lot of chores accomplished, I will say that! And the writing was very good. Hilarious at times.
