3.7 AVERAGE

...this was just a weird one....

Wow. Three weeks into 2018 and I think I may have already found the best book I will read this year!

The plot seems simple and obvious. Louise meets a man in a bar. She kisses him. Only to find out in the next few days he's 1. Married and 2. Her new boss (let's have a moment to appreciate Louise who surely has the worst luck ever). She then simultaneously manages to start an affair with him and become best friends with his wife.

Told from alternating points of view this is the sort of book that will have you sneaking off for five minutes just to read another chapter. It's a book that will have you staying up late frantically reading a few more pages, trying to read faster to find out what happens.

It's a book that jolted me out of my very bad habit of skim reading to say out loud "wait, what?!" And this was only about 20% of the way in! I pride myself on being able to guess the ending of books quite early on but boy I did not see this one coming, even after the earlier red herring!

The ending will make you either hate this book or love it but you'll definitely enjoy the process of getting there.

Fun with obsession and crazy ending. Not as literary as I normally like but interesting enough to finish and enjoy

What an absolute rollercoaster of a psychological thriller!

Sarah Pinborough weaves a twisted tale of love, secrets, and deception that’s unlike anything I’ve ever listened to. The story follows Louise, a single mom who gets entangled in a messy love triangle with her charming boss, David, and his enigmatic wife, Adele. What starts as a seemingly predictable drama spirals into a mind-bending web of lies, unreliable narrators, and a supernatural twist that I never saw coming.

The audiobook’s narration is phenomenal. They bring each character to life with distinct voices that amplify the tension and emotion. The pacing is perfect, building suspense slowly before hitting you with a double-twist ending that left me speechless.

It’s addictive, unsettling, and brilliantly crafted! If you love a story that keeps you guessing until the very last second, grab this audiobook and brace yourself for a wild ride.

3.5 rounded up. This was so close to being 3.5 rounded down but that final twist was a doozy.
