Oh my word. The narrator's "voice" for Inès made me want to punch her in the throat. I gave up at 14% and now have checked out the ebook. I feel like the story is probably good if I don't have to listen to the narrator.

Now that I've read it, I can honestly say I enjoyed.

The beginning of this one was slow, but I couldn't put it down about 3/4 of the way through. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres. My favorite is still The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, but this one is up there.

3.5 stars. The writing is ho hum, but I learned a lot about the Champagne region of France during the Second World War.

3.5. I didn’t really like any of the characters very much which made it hard to like the book. There were aspects I liked but many I didn’t.

I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read but not boring by any means.  I enjoyed all the characters and the storyline was interesting.

3.75 - This wasn't my favorite Kristin Harmel and I'd been looking forward to it for a long time but it was an entertaining dual timeline WWII story. I think the stories of the main characters in the 1940s timeline were just more complicated, intertwined and sad than I typically like to read about. This book doesn't give you the usual happily ever after wrapped up in a bow, which is a refreshing change but I guess I'm hardwired to want that.

The present day timeline has a happier ending but I found it hard to get invested in the modern love story when the two MCs don't get a lot of page time. If you enjoy WWII historical fiction this one is a solid addition, especially if you enjoy learning more about wine making and books like The lost vintage by Ann Mah, The inheritance by JoAnn Ross or The vineyards of Champagne by Juliet Blackwell.
