I think people are too quick to write this one off because of how insufferable Holden is, and maybe that’s just because he’s so relatable to anyone who was a bit too edgy as a teenager, but I finished this in one sitting. He’s a captivating character, and though his journey feels as though it went nowhere, I think that’s the point (?)

Wow. This was absolutely not what I was expecting but I really enjoyed it. Holden is really strange but kinda hilarious and I love that the book is in first person because his little thoughts are so random but so funny, here are a few of my favs:
"I'm quite illiterate, but I read a lot" - idk why but this actually made me laugh out loud
"What the hellya reading?" "Goddam book."
"Women kill me. They really do. I don't mean I'm oversexed or anything like that- although I am quite sexy..." - love the confidence!
"I'm always saying 'Glad to've met you' to someone I'm not at all glad I met. If you want to stay alive, you have to say that stuff though."
"What I really felt like, though, was committing suicide. I felt like jumping out the window. I probably would've done it, too, if I'd been sure somebody'd cover me up as soon as I landed. I didn't want a bunch of stupid rubbernecks looking at me when I was all gory." - bro, are you ok?
"I have one of those very loud, stupid laughs. I mean if I ever sat behind myself in a movie or something, I'd probably lean over and tell myself to please shut up."

Although there are definitely some questionable quotes too, like when he's talking about consent and says... "They tell me to stop, so I stop. I always wish I hadn't." HUH??

But, questionable quotes aside, I did like Holden. Yes, he is a judgemental asshole and a bit insane but there's just something about him that is so endearing and a bit relatable too. I especially liked his relationship with his sister Phoebe, she's so cute and he seems to really adore her, even when they're having petty little arguments (as siblings do)!

Read it in High School. I just didnt find it interesting
