Initial Thoughts
I love a good historical rom-com. This one didn't look like a rom-com but it definitely had hilarious moments of banter and situations.
Some Things I Liked
The wit and banter. As with the best historical romances I've read, the banter is always the star of the show. I loved the back and forth between the characters in this series and I really loved the side characters. I can easily see who I'm excited to see in subsequent sequels.
A lady with a mind for business. I always like to see the heroine of these stories getting to shine and show off that women can do anything they set their minds too. I loved that theme in this book.
Series Value
I'd definitely keep reading this series. I suspect the next book is probably about the main character's sister or brother and the third book will be about the remaining sibling.
Final Thoughts
This was an easy, fun read with some heavy themes but overall, a lighthearted historical rom-com.

The Heiress Gets a Duke
•
August Crenshaw is an American heiress but unlike her peers who want to be married to a man with a title, she has hopes for her future that include helping her father run his business. Evan Sterling, Duke of Rothschild has to be married to save his family from ruin. August turns out to be just the heiress he needs.
•
This book pleasantly surprised me! I was thinking I was picking it up as a light palate cleanser, but it turned out to be more than I expected. I loved August’s drive and hopes for her future. She was a strong woman who knew what she wanted. Evan was also charming and swoon worthy. Add in some steam and this was a wonderful weekend read!

*3.5* A sweet, forward feminist thinking historical romance. A Duke in need of a wealthy wife and an American railroad princess find they have more more to give each other than money or a title.
He loved how direct she was. No one in his entire life had ever said that they meant.I wished the h had been less wishy-washy and unrealistic about her future. The H was swoony, fully on board to let her work after being married, what kind of new age thinking is this!?
Such a cute historical romance! Surprisingly a lot of emotional depth and complex characters. I loved how independent and strong the female main character was and I loved how the male main character wasn’t abusive and saw his love interest as an equal. They had a mature, nontoxic relationship; nothing was forced like in typical historical romances, both main characters made decisions on their own. The plot is cliché: a poor duke marries an American heiress so that he gets money and she gets a title. However, I didn’t find the story itself cliché and I loved how it progressed. I will definitely be reading the rest of the books in this series!
This was my first “Book of the Month” subscription book I’ve read, and I adored it! If you’re a fan of the Bridgerton series, you’ll love this one as well.
