I really enjoyed this book, along with the other books in the series thus far. The only thing I didn't like about this book was the ending. It ended in a cliffhanger, and a bad one in my opinion. I have started the next book, and it starts a couple of months later. I'm very curious about what happened in those couple of months between Jesse and Suze. I really did like this book, though. It was action-packed and I read it all in one day. I obviously am continuing the series and hope the last two books don't disappoint.

Okay, I love these books so much because I feel like they're easy to read and not boring. *couch Rise cough* The first half of the book I sat there waiting for Jesse to realise that he was in love with Suze. I think that it's so adorable that Jesse never calls Suze Susannah. I hate Maria and Diego with a burning fiery passion, that I wish I could have been there when Suze was kicking their butts, no that I would have been much help. So, as you can tell, I was very glad when they were exorcised. Jack the little mediator is so cute, except for when he accidentally exorcised Jesse; that wasn't cute at all. Maria is a witch-with-a-b for telling him Suze doesn't like Jesse. Clive Clemmings, PhD., was a rather funny character, even if we didn't know him very well. I thought it was funny that Suze got offended when the lady who answered the phone called Father Dominic Dom, yet she calls him Father D. Every time something went wrong, I was sitting there yelling at Suze in my mind to call Father Dominic because that would make everything all right. Either that or she should call Doc/David. I kept forgetting that no of her family knows she's a mediator, except Doc. I don't understand why she wants to stop calling David Doc. I mean, he doesn't get offended by it, does he? I laughed harder than I should have when Father Dominic called Suze's brother Bradley. At the end, I didn't think that they were actually going to print the story Suze told them. I didn't think the fancy newspaper people would believe it, that's why. I think it's funny that Suze says every time she mentions CeeCee that she's albino. Suze was so cute to go into the hole to find Jesse. When he seemed to hesitate about coming back, I wanted to yell at him, "She loves you! That's why she came!!! Not for the cat! The least you could do is come with her and be in love with her, too." So when he kissed her at the end, I died of adorable-ness during my math class. I going to shelve this on adorable, but I know it's a stretch.

I LOVED this one! Best one of the series so far!! Some loose ends got tied up, but of course there’s more ghostly shenanigans to be had. Looking forward to reading on.

Re-read 4/27/17: Swooney swoon SWOON. I cannot over here. I'm a swooney mess. Have mercy

Once again, another amazing book by Cabot. This is the point the series gets seriously good. I'm having so much fun with these rereads.

I liked this book a lot. Mostly because it was finally a book that gave us all kinds of information on Jesse.

Ditto to everything I’ve stated in previous reviews, but this book was SO enthralling! I really enjoyed the summer plot line and could not put the novel down. I have to pick the next one up immediately!

4.5/5 stars. I know Susannah is busy in this book, but she really should have figured out Paul sooner. As soon as Maria said that phrase I knew he was working with them. I suspected before. Also why would anyone think him good looking when he is such a jerk?
Anyways, a good book like the others before. I don’t know if Suze has actually evolved that much since we met her in the first book. Hope that changes more.

I don't know what it is about this series. I liked this book, but I didn't really like it. It's sort of par for the course when it comes to my response to the series, but I was really hoping that this book would break the trend.

Darkest Hour brings everything back to Jesse's death when his ex-fiancée decides that the backyard reno is digging a little too deep for her liking.

You know with this sort of plot that the focus will undoubtedly be all about the Jesse/Suze relationship. This is the first time where their connection really worked for me. In the last couple books, Cabot never gave me a strong enough feeling that these two actually have conversations, actually have things in common, actually have something going on between them beyond Suze thinking he's dreamy. It makes a lot of difference when Jesse is the focus of the story and isn't just appearing to help out and give vague warnings. I liked seeing more of him.

As for the plot itself. It went in some pretty unexpected directions and has opened up the door to question what it really means to be a mediator for Suze.

Cabot writes books that are easy to read, I was able to finish this within a couple hours of when I started. But I think that might also be part of why I find it so difficult to give these books anything higher then a three. I like the characters and the stories, but so much is left undeveloped and unexplored. So many of the characters just get rotated out of the story. Any new character that is introduced is generally written away by the end chapter. They've moved, they were on vacation, they have some other reason to skedaddle. It's all too neat for me. It's like nothing has any sort of lasting repercussions and the story is so condensed that it misses out on opportunities to do more.

For example, where is Suze's dad? When the series started up Suze made a point of saying he pops up in her life a lot, but we haven't really seen much of him since. I would have thought he'd play a bigger role. Having a dead parent who hasn't passed on seems like it should be a bigger deal.

I just don't know what it is I'm not getting from the story, but it's all too put together and the more I read the more formulaic it's starting to become. Now is when Suze will not tell anyone what's going on to try and do things on her own; now is when she'll decided she needs to kick some ass and go off on her own; well what do you know that didn't go well; now it's time for a new plan which works, but only sort of; now she's in trouble; final battle; emotional conclusion; new characters written out of story; normalcy restored; the end.

It's still enjoyable to read, but it's not hitting that level of enjoyment that I've been waiting for.
