"Save a horse, ride a cowboy."
I knew from everything I'd heard and seen about this book that I would love it and love it I did! Willa and Cade (and Luke) have my whole heart!
"The coffee is for you. Starting some two-year-olds today. If you feel like getting your back broken, meet me at the barn and you can sit on one."
"Thank you for the coffee. I’m ready for you to break my back."
Right from the very first page I was laughing and kicking my feet and smiling like a loon. Every single moment between Willa and Cade just made me feel so much and I truly adored every moment of this book.
The way Elsie writes her characters is so beautifully flawed and authentically raw and I love getting to know each of them and visit the ranches she creates.
"And I realize in that moment maybe I am heartless after all, because the beautiful girl with the copper hair grinning back at me right now is the one who stole it."
Willa was such a quintessential 20-something, not feeling like she had a true purpose and being afraid to try because of failure. It was so refreshing to follow a FMC that while incredibly confident and sassy, still deep down was trying to figure out her place in the world.
For a girl with so much attitude, she has a serious a case of self-doubt on her hands. One I intend to clear up for her.
"I love listening to you talk, Red. But when you say things that aren't true, I get pissed off. Things you make up in your pretty head and toss around in there long enough that you believe them.
You have no idea how special you are. How insane you make me feel. How I haven't stopped thinking about you since the moment laid eyes on you."
And Cade... where do I even start with Daddy Cade. He was gruff, meticulous and responsible, because he had to be, but watching him learn to be vulnerable again and let himself want things was so satisfying. And the way he owned the bedroom was equally as satisfying. The mouth on that man!
"You heard me, Red. You keep barking at me like that and I’m going to put you on your knees, open those strawberry lips, and f*ck your face just to shut you up."
Watching Willa and Cade grow to trust and rely on one another, and build a family together with Luke and then Emma was so heart-warming, and I truly loved every single moment of their story.
"I know I’m not actually your mom, but I love you like one. Did you know I fell in love with you before I fell in love with your dad?"

This was such a delightful story. After yearning to learn more about the other characters from the first book, Flawless, it was wonderful to finally hear Cade and Willa’s story.
Willa, the best friend of our main character, Summer, from the first book in the series, is a fun, wild, and witty woman. Her bartending days have honed her ability to handle rowdy crowds.
On the other hand, Cade is a single father who works early mornings and late nights on the family ranch. He cherishes the time he spends with his five-year-old son, Luke, whom he feels he can’t give all the attention he deserves. To help out during the summer months when school is out, Cade hires a nanny.
After a few grumpy snarls from Cade and Willa being a wind-up merchant, they both instantly connect, despite her being 13 years younger than him.
Cade was burdened with excessive responsibility from a young age and deeply hurt by his ex-wife. Willa, on the other hand, feels flighty and anxious about failing to live up to the expectations of her parents. As they learn to live together and care for Luke, their bond deepens, becoming filled with humor and emotional depth. There’s no way they can resist each other.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the other stories featuring the other characters!

4.5 ⭐️ (📚)
I loved it, I’m quite relived to see this relationship has developed slower than the first in this series - it makes sense, he’s got a kid to think about and also THANK FUCK for an age gap relationship where they don’t meet when the FMC is like 13 because that is so weird and predatory.
I say slow in a sense of physical romance. Boy was the tension present. I loved all characters in this book, Luke was adorable and Willa was the absolute cutest around him. They were such a charming duo.
Willa was strong willed and strong minded and knew what she wanted and was not afraid to show it. Cade had a hard exterior that was put up to protect his family which was slowly broken down by the nanny with her charm and banter.
Honestly this book was a gem. However other than the word woman, the ending threw me off. No third act breakup! Which was nice but I can’t say I was thrilled about how their relationship became official but hey that was like last 10% I’m being picky.
Again love this series (not as good as the first) but very much a blast to read. Would recommend!
The reason I rounded down from a 5 to a 4.5 is completely superficial, but I believe it to be very valid. It is the pet name “woman”. I think this has made me realise i hate it. So not for me but other than that I loved this book lol!

This was the best grumpy/cheerful story I’ve read in a while. Cade feels responsible for everyone, and when Willa enters the picture he finds her irresistible. She has a sunny disposition who rolls with the punches. Luke was adorable, and they bond over the summer while she’s his nanny. I loved this book. I can’t wait to read the rest of the stories about his family.
