“You can learn a lot from fairy tales if you watch them closely enough.”

Kept is a second chance fairy tale by A.C. Bextor. This story is a little different from the other stories of hers that I had read. I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into, but she had never let me down before, so I trusted her to blow my mind yet again. I am in awe of this talented author, she delivered, and then some. Going from raw, gritty and intense MC romances, to delivering this touching, sweet and poignant story is no small feat…. and she nailed it, superbly!
Lucy Monroe is a bit of a quirky character- she’s spunky, lively and adorably odd. She’s also a wonderful mother and sole parent to six-year-old Dillon. She used to believe in fairy tales and happily-ever-afters- but after a tragedy left her a little broken she decided to forget such silly notions and concentrate on the ‘real’ world. Working hard to make ends meet and making sure her son is taken care of. She worked in a diner with work hours which allowed her to be with Dillon as much as possible. But when business slows down, her hours are cut- she’s left with no choice but to look for a new job. When a position as a personal assistant at a law firm opens up, she jumps at the opportunity, both excited and nervous to do something completely different. But her first day on the job starts badly when one of the partners at the firm leaves her with a really bad impression, when he acts like a bit of a brute. She isn’t sure how this job is going to go, especially since she’s fairly certain that one of her new bosses hates her.
Michael Holden is a partner in a successful law firm. His world was shattered five years ago, and he still carries the scars, feeling the pain of betrayal and loss. He’s brooding, moody and sullen, with serious trust issues. He doesn’t like social situations or feelings and has become a bit of a recluse. There are secrets he keeps and decisions that he’s made that have the potential to come back and bite him. When Lucy is hired by his business partner as their personal assistant, she’s the last person he wants to see. She may not know him, but he knows her, they have a connection that only he’s aware of at this point, and she’s a reminder of his hurt and all the circumstances that caused it. But at the same time, he admires her sassy, no nonsense attitude and her fearlessness in the face of adversity. She is also intrigued and drawn to him- so what starts out to be a volatile start soon morphs into so much more. Will these two be exactly what the other needs to heal?
I loved everything about this story. I really couldn’t put it down, I was entranced by every little detail. Ms. Bextor really surprised me in a really good way. This story is a testament to her writing prowess. I can’t wait to get ‘lost’ in another of Ms. Bextor’s enticing stories. I wonder what she has in store for us next? It can’t come soon enough.

Thank you, Ms Bextor!

Kept: A Second Chance Fairy Tale by A.C. Bextor

This is my second book by this author and I chose this one after reading the raving reviews and I have to say I completely agree with every positive written for this book. I fell in love with Michael and Lucy, their stories were both heart breaking and the connection between the two was amazingly written. I thought I had it all figured out and then realized it wasn't exactly the way I thought it was, in more ways than one.

I loved Lucys straight forward attitude, she had just enough sass and stood up to that which most would flinch and back away from. The strength in her after what she had been through was great and her struggling from day to day to make sure her son was happy and protected was written beautifully. She would do whatever she had to do to keep him safe even if it meant protecting him from a family member that in a normal world should have never been a threat. She once believed in Fairy Tales, the kind that she'd see in her favorite Disney Movies, but with all she has been through, she was losing faith that any of those would ever come true.

Michael lives daily with sadness and guilt, which has turned him cold. His life changed a few years back and since then he has decided to never love another person and give over that kind of control. He has formed a business arrangement with Lucy, yet this arrangement is completely secret, he has never even met her and she has no idea he even exists.

All of the characters in this book were awesome..I loved Lillie and how she handled Michael and Corbin, I loved Shannan and how she handled Lucy. Im seriously hoping there's more to come for all these characters, the implied relationship at the end is one I hope turns into its own story.

Loved Loved Loved this book!!!! This author is AMAZING!!!

This was a very easy, quick read and very enjoyable. I found myself rooting for both main characters hoping that their trials would be overcome and they would somehow right their worlds in the end. I enjoyed reading how the author developed each character's storyline and history separately and watching how they might and did combine. This is a perfect book for a cozy fall afternoon.
