Whimsical and dark, while still being hopeful. A wonderful conclusion to the series. The characters grew in a satisfying and believable manner of the course of the series. The tower continued to elude understanding through the course of the book. I felt some of the ringdoms we explored in this finale instalment were not given enough development, but I think that was intentional, I feel we were never supposed to truly understand the tower. However, I do feel the end was left a bit to open for my liking, in some aspects it felt like the start of a story not the end.
The imagination show cased in this series is something rarely seen in adult fantasy and is what truly makes it unique, I’d highly recommend the series as a whole.

I really wanted Bancroft to stick the landing on this one, considering he created an entertainingly unique fantasy world full of mysteries and terrific, loveable characters, all written with wonderful prose. While none of the sequels quite lived up to the magic of the original, it still appeared he was going somewhere with all the plot devices and character arcs. Unfortunately, The Fall of Babel falls flat.
There are a few good moments, but mostly this feels like a first draft. Sure, it isn't WRITTEN like a first draft (Bancroft knows how to construct a sentence), but all the reveals and character endings here just don't quite work. The logic of the Tower breaks down, even before the introduction of what it really was. Senlin is relegated to side character in the ending of his own story, and his ending too falls flat. It's just... messy.

A good, but not perfect ending to one of the most unique and weird fantasy series I've ever read.
The prose and ideas are as amazing and gripping as they were throughout the series. It's still a fantastic series that I can't even begin to put into words just how much I love it.
The pacing however didn't always work as well for me in The Fall of Babel. We spend a lot of the start with just one character in one bit of the tower, and I was just waiting and waiting to get back to the other characters as well. I was happy to see more Adam again, but it felt like ages before we finally got to see our other friends and favourites again - especially after how The Hod King ended!
So that's half a star missing there.
The other half star is missing for a few moments when it just couldn't hold my attention as well as the other three books did, and the very open end.
I wouldn't have wanted a very defined end with everything closed and set into stone. But if really have likes *a little* bit of resolve, at least for now.
So even with all this complaining, this still was Avery entertaining and good read, even if not just as satisfying as u had hoped. But then my expectations where sky high *Coughs*
