After building up fantastic and vast mythos of tower of Babel in the first three books, Josiah Bancroft set himself up for almost impossible task to finish that of. And although I love "The Books of Babel" very much and overall conclusion is satisfying and well within the playground author has established, I can not stomach, that at one point amidst the series Bancroft decided that no, Senlin will not ascend afterall. And therefore I kind of feel betrayed.

I loved the rest of this series, but I felt like there was too much going on in this book. I still enjoyed it overall, but I felt a little lost from time to time and that led to taking a 3 month hiatus before I came back to finish the book. I think splitting this into two shorter novels may have been better.

"The human race will march into the darkness singing songs and telling stories because that is who we are and what we do."

I'm honestly not sure why people seem to dislike the ending of this book (and series) so much. I won't spoil it here, but I wonder if it's because they feel as duped as the characters were? When I realized the true plot, I wanted to laugh, I admit. But because it was clever, not because it was bad.

In any case, this series has been one of the best I've ever read. Could the plot have been a tad tighter at times? Certainly. But all in all, that's my only complaint. I enjoyed every page of this story. It has entertained me thoroughly with its uniqueness and wit, and I'm grateful to have discovered it years ago and finally committed to reading it. I'd recommend this series for anyone who enjoys a science fiction-flavored adventure with sharp-witted characters and insightful observations about reality sprinkled throughout.

Babel Falls, the fourth and final entry into the Books of Babel, is not as bad as I thought, as I had seen some pretty negative reviews, but it's still not that good. It starts off by focusing on a character who was absent from book 3, but shouldn't have been. It then focuses on what feels like the main characters, but it feels like they are doing side quests before the final battle.

There is a great build-up though leading to what should be a great revelation. But it's not, it's confusing. Mysteries, at the end of the series, should be about small things, that build wonder into the world. They shouldn't be about the main plot points, leaving you with more questions than you started.

I feel like I'm complaining, as I like reading most of the book. While I was reading most of the book, I thought, "wow, im liking this a lot, the end must really not be that good to leave such negative thoughts."

Reflecting on the confusing ending, and the disjointed lead-up to that ending, I'm left disappointed.

It was a slow read but I liked it. I didnt hate the ending. I wonder if there will be a follow up series afterwards but I think it will be okay if there isnt.

This series has been so refreshing. Where it ends up in this novel is not something I would have predicted from the start. It is inventive and clever throughout. With theThe Fall of Babel being the last installment my question going in is always, does it stick the landing? I'm happy to report that it does. The wild and crazy innerworkings of the tower and that of the myriad of factions and peoples all comes to a head. All the main characters and nearly all the minor ones, unless I misremembered some of them, make an appearance. And there is a fair amount of falling action as well, which is something I love as a reader. My usual complaint with the series has been the meandering plot. I have constantly been confounded by where the story was going. It took me four books, but I was able to just sit back and let this one linger which made for a better experience overall. A good series and one that I think deserves the hype it gets in certain places of the online world. Oh, and the epigraphs! Brillant. Perhaps the best I have seen to date.
