It doesn't matter if you don't like the characters, you just feel for them so deeply. Some scenes just feel so soul crushing reading their POVs and everyone here is so messy, so toxic, and so obsessed with each other. The second book in this series feels more like Gossip Girl/Rivals with the backdrop of a Guy Ritchie movie. This is drama first, romance second and then mod related stories third which was wild to have. I just cannot explain how the writing and set up just fully immerse you into the story. I listened to the audiobook which I loved so I'm not sure how the footnotes worked with that but that was not something that brought me out of the story which I read was a complaint for some people.
Daisy and Christian are bound to be together even though Romeo is Daisy's childhood love and the two of them are bonded through all the craziness they've experienced because of the circumstances (mob family vibes). There's just so much turmoil, chaos, and their inner monologues let you the reader know that they are aware they are ruining their relationships. They know they are hurting the person they love yet they do it anyway because they're not sure how to function normally in a relationship. But everyone then gets hurt and no one is happy.
It's the melodrama of it all that just makes this book addictive--you want them to do the right thing and you keep reading waiting for that moment and sometimes it does happen and that feeds you just enough so that when they mess up again you want them to do better and the cycle resumes. The ending though, oh my--that was indeed unexpected and had my jaw on the floor. I really loved Daisy and Christian together and found this possibly more fun that the first installment. 4.25/5

I’m in love with this series, however this one made me cringe a bit. The love story was good and the pace was nice. But the authors way of writing a mafia crime is soooo cringey. Also what I’ve learned is Daisy Haites is one big annoying brat. This book had more action to it but, the last 15-20% of the book had me hating Daisy a bit…
