Starting this book after finishing the emotional turmoil of Throne of Glass is the most bittersweet treat. While being excited about treading back to the world of Celaena, you still know the ill-fated end. This adds to the tragedy as we finally get to meet and fall in love with Sam. One last gut wrenching tale from Sarah that makes you want to pick Throne of Glass again and start all over.
I know reading ordering of this series is a hot debate, and I decided to read The Assassin’s Blade third (which I think is publication order?).
I actually really enjoyed reading it third! I knew Celaena as a character and was able to relate to her more I think than if I read it first. I was also familiar with the world, which I think helped a lot too. I knew the general plot line and could pick out important information and characters that I think will come up later, and had I read it first, I definitely wouldn’t have been able to pick up on those things. While some of this one was slow, I really liked getting some of Celaena’s backstory. I think the third novella was my favorite. There were some characters in this one that really made me furious on Celaena’s behalf (iykyk) but I was honestly expecting to see more of her connection with Sam. I was left wanting more of their characters together. Overall, I enjoyed these novellas! I’m really interested to see how these stories come up later on in the series!
