i still really enjoyed this book and getting more of calaena’s backstory but i also found myself just sometimes not really being super interested or connected with the stories, and i think that stems from the fact that i finished heir of fire and then moved to this and it felt slow and a tad boring in comparison

Story 1: 1.5 stars, I was so bored I almost fell asleep reading
Story 2: 4 stars, really liked getting a glimpse of Celaena's other sides
Story 3: 5 stars, highlight of the series, so gay
Story 4: 2 stars, back to boring after a really fun trip in the desert
Story 5: 3 stars, a predictable stab in the back, but engaging

Wow…I sat in my emotions for a good 20 minutes after reading this book. I knew I was stepping into a world fraught with danger, intrigue, and heart-wrenching moments. Having recently concluded a journey through the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, where emotions ran from devastatingly sad to ultimately hopeful, I was prepared for another rollercoaster ride. However, I didn't quite anticipate the emotional weight that this prequel would carry right from the start. This left me feeling less hopeful. lol
