A warm, cosy read that makes you hopeful for humanity (which I guess goes without saying for a Becky Chambers book) but not as enjoyable as the previous two in the series. In keeping with the themes of the book, I missed hearing about different planets and interaction between all the different species. Still worth the read though, and it’s impressive how vastly different each book of the series has been.

The Exodus fleet is a living relic from when the last people left Earth. Tessa chose to stay home while her brother left to the stars until her job is threatened. Kip itches for a change but doesn’t know what that looks like. Sawyer a lost and lonely newcomer is just looking for a place to belong and when tragedy strikes Exodans are forced to question what the purpose of a ship that has found its destination is.
This one was hard for me to get into at first and I was slightly confused. I found my groove later but I still feel underwhelmed by this one in respect to Chambers two previous works in this series. The characters felt less interesting to me despite still being very fleshed out and dimensional. I missed having more disparate POV’s as many felt too slow or similar to make me as invested as I wanted to be.
I did enjoy the latter half of this story and where the characters ended because it felt correct and closer to what I had been hoping for with in regard to Chambers. Sadly the journey didn’t work for me perfectly however the ending did help this books case for me by a lot. 3.5/5.

I think I shouldn't have tried to read this one while moving / job hunting / other life stresses. It needs time to sit with, and I've been so so hectic lately. But still adore Becky Chambers forever!! I think their novellas were just better for me as life has been so wild.
Not my favorite book in the series but definetly still worth a read.

Aaaaagh! What is this? 1/4 of the way through this book and you're still introducing characters that have no relation to each other and nothing is happening! It's a setup for something, I guess, but I'm bored out of my mind because I have no reason to care about any of these people yet so I just stopped reading entirely. Mainly a disappointment coming off the 5/5 masterpiece that was the previous book. Oh well.
