Plot diarrhea. I read and enjoy classics with frequency, but this book just didn't do it for me. Scattered, vulgar, and random, it lacks an interesting plot, and the things it has to say just don't seem all that deep to me. Maybe I'll give it another try at some point, since I have some friends who read it in the original spanish and really enjoyed it, but for now it's a DNF at about 40%.
Las ultimas 300 páginas he estado como el gif de Danny DeVito que dice “I get it now”

I know this is a classic but the many cases of incest and repetitiveness with people with the same names got old really quick. I know it is symbolic, but the fantastical many elements of magical realism aren’t enough to make up for the depravity of many of the family members. Made my stomach sick. . Would not recommend to anyone for sure.
Graphic: Ableism, Adult/minor relationship, Alcoholism, Child death, Gun violence, Incest, Infidelity, Mental illness, Violence, Police brutality, Colonisation, War, Classism, Pandemic/Epidemic
Moderate: Cursing, Emotional abuse, Suicide, Pregnancy, Injury/Injury detail
This is a crazy book, filled with numerous people who share the same names, cyclical events, and a dash of magical realism. The plot only begins to take form after the first hundred pages, and establishes itself more as you read. There were so many events happening in such a rapid pace that it was difficult for me to get into the story. The book definitely had its moments where I was hooked, but those were short-lived and the overall feeling I had was myself hanging on for dear life and simply letting the events happen as I struggled to keep the facts straight.
