Thank you NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for this arc in exchange for an honest review!
I loved it.
First of all, Phoebe turned out to be a remarkably relatable character. I found myself connecting with her on a personal level. I enjoyed her relationship with Hailey and how deep they cared for each other.
The banter between Phoebe and Rocky provided moments of genuine amusement. Their moments of emotional turmoil, coupled with their undeniable affection for one another, were particularly poignant.
The entire friend group, in fact, captivated my interest. Each member possesses an aura of intrigue, and I yearn to delve deeper into their lives.
Let’s not forget about Jake, who in particular, piqued my curiosity. I’m eager to learn more about him.
In essence, this book offers a captivating narrative, weaving together elements of mystery, angst, romance, and the unique charm of a small-town setting. I seriously can’t wait for the next installment in the series.

On a romance kick. Didn’t realize this was a series and ended on a cliff hanger. Loveable characters, classic family friend enemies to lovers with a fun twist of con artist families being the backdrop. Loved. Excited for the next one to be available at the library

Phoebe and Rocky need to be protected at all costs! I went into this blind and really had no idea what to expect and I was totally blown away by how GOOD this was! This is more than just a romance between our two main characters, but the found family with all six of the kids is everything.
Phoebe and Hailey’s friendship is one of the truest friendships that I have ever read in a book before. These two would literally go to the ends of the earth to be there for one another. It’s giving Danaerys and Missandei vibes to the max.
And then you have Phoebe and Rocky. These two love each other so deeply but they put refuse to allow themselves to be together because of everything their families force them to do in their cons. The push and pull between these two and omg the chemistry is just so HOT

This was so good. I promised myself I had to get down to a certain amount on my physical TBR before I bought another book, but you better believe that right when I reach my goal, the first book I will buy is book two. It had everything you need to keep you entertained; a unique backstory to the characters that I haven't seen before, a healthy best friend dynamic between two women, and an angsty and tension filled romance. Seriously had a hard time putting this down to do real life things.
First of all, the relationship between Rocky and Phoebe is exactly what I mean when I say I want tension and angst. Their back and forths were so intense, I could literally feel their chemistry through the pages. I also liked how they never denied their feelings to one another, they just forbid themselves from ever crossing that boundary. And the "forbidden" aspect of their relationship really helped with building that angst between the two of them.
Phoebe and her best friend, Hailey, want to start over after a con gone bad. They're both from family's of professional grifters, always looking for the next big payout. They find themselves in a little town called Victoria and are set on living on the straight and narrow. Only Hailey's older brother, Rocky, decides to tag along. Phoebe was hoping this new start was a way for her to get over Rocky and start fresh with a new person, but Rocky is everywhere Phoebe is. She can't escape him.
Highlights:
📌Con Family
📌Found Family (Kinda)
📌Forbidden Love
📌Best Friend's Older Brother
📌Fresh Start
📌Small Town

I will forever live, breathe and die for KBR. This was definitely different from their previous books. Less character based but still really good. They don’t usually leave me questioning everything.
I actually really like phoebe and rocky a lot. I like the small town trope. This cliff hanger made me really excited for the next book. I want more of the siblings. The flashbacks were really good too. The spice took a while to spice. If you love KBRs writing you should definitely read.
