 Spencer spends too much time thinking about certain parts of his own body. It's surprising he has any time to be with Charlotte with how much he thinks about it. There were some really cute scenes with his cat, his sister and Charlotte but Spencer was hard to read for being hard seemed to be his only focus.

The 'villain' of the story if you can call them that was an after thought. If the author wanted things to be more shocking or tense maybe have the main characters be around the villain in more than one or two scenes.

The spicy scenes were good. The male lead needs to grow up and stop thinking like a frat bro and the villain needs some actual development. All in all a meh read.

So here's the thing: this is normally the sort of thing I wouldn't have put on my Goodreads. As I've said in many of my reviews the past couple of weeks, I have the Audible Romance package for one month and I've been sampling a lot of different books, DNF'ing stuff left and right and choosing not to taint my profile with so much of the worst of the worst.

This book almost joined those books. Almost. The reason it didn't is a multitude of things. First, I was expecting The Hating Game by Sally Thorne to last my whole shift at work today, but my math was wrong (because I was listening to it at x1.4 the speed and I'm terrible at that sort of math) and, on top of that math, I had to stay an hour late, so I had four hours in front of me and no book picked out to follow The Hating Game because of the second factor, the next book I planned to read after The Hating Game was All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover which, at that point, did not come out for another five hours, one hour after I got done at work. I took a quick break, downloaded some free shit from the Audible Romance page, and picked the shortest one so I could listen to as much of it as possible tonight, then finish it really quickly tomorrow and get started on those sweet, sweet CoHo Gut Punches™ as soon as possible.

I started this book by listening to it at x1.65 the speed and finished it at x2.05. This book is only six hours long. This would have easily been just another DNF if I had anything else to listen to or another break to look for something to listen to, so I was sort of stuck with it.

Enough backstory. Here's the actual review.

I rolled my eyes at least one thousand times while listening. Nothing was realistic, the characters fucking suck, the plot is the most clichéd, predictable, and stupid pieces of garbage I've ever had the displeasure of reading. I can't believe I'm saying this, but at the very least, More Than This by Jay McLean (which is still worse in other areas, mind) had a more interesting plot in that it involved (unintentionally hilarious) murder and (unintentionally hilarious) lying and cheating. I've often stuck by the sentiment that it's better to make a spectacularly terrible piece of work than a boring one. This somehow manages to be both!

Speaking of spectacularly terrible and boring, holy shit, Spencer was the actual worst. Arrogant, pigheaded, rude, lacks human emotions such as empathy and love, might actually be a robot, too stupid to live...just, think of all the worst traits a person could possibly have. Our "protagonist" has at least 75% of those traits and we're in his head.

One of the biggest reasons I decided to actually review this book, however, was the sheer volume of glowing 5-star reviews on the front page for this book. Of the 30 reviews featured on the front page, 18 of them are 5-stars. That's so weird and gross to me. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions. I don't want to get down on anyone for enjoying a book; I never want to be that way. I certainly have my share of books where the roles are reversed. However, I don't think I will ever understand why anyone enjoys it. I read some of those glowing reviews and I don't get it. I really don't. Its cover is gross, its insides are gross, and I feel gross for having spent my time with it.

About a week or two ago, I read Full Package and loved it a lot. So I decided to read many more books by Lauren Blakely, starting with the romantic comedies. Since the comedies are somewhat linked, I started from the first in the "series" and this one was it.

This was a very short book and it was fun. I didn't like it as much as I liked Full Package. The romance and the entertainment game wasn't as great as it was in that one. It was still a ton of fun and very cute. I liked the plot and I'm quickly coming to adore all of Lauren Blakely's characters, both male and female, because their so mature and non-angsty about things. They're nice, considerate and funny. Love 'em.

The writing was a tad stilted at times and the humor came off as a little trying-too-hard. But overall, I really liked the novel and I'm looking forward to read more by the author.

A decent fake engagement story.  I wasn’t sure I would like it as our MMC is full of himself, or so we think.   It was a good ride.

* une semaine à faire semblant, puis c'est la rupture
* redevenir de simples amis après la mascarade
* ne pas passer la nuit chez l'autre
* pas de moments gênants/bizarres
* pas de mensonges
* ne pas tomber amoureux (ah ah !)
