I really enjoyed it. It read like a memoir. It is so true to life how people often experience these kinds of situations. Mixed feelings, a slow awakening, complex reactions. The only thing that stopped it from being a 5 was the interactions between the priest and the main character towards the end.
It rubbed me the wrong way. Nothing horrible happens but just personal preference would rather have had it completely one sided.

The novel was about two sibling that live in Nigeria with their very religious father. After they visited their Aunty in Nsukka, things started to change when they returned home. Things I like about the book:
I liked the author writing and the format of how she told the story.
I liked the found family between the siblings,  Aunty, and cousins.
I liked the growth of Kambili character throughout the book.
I loved the strength and how vocal Aunty Ifeoma character portrays.
I like how the author uses Amaka to express her love for her country although they are going through political unrest. This book was also really hard for me to read it speak on domestic violence,  child abuse, murder etc plus I didn't like the inappropriate relationship between Kambili and father Amadi; however it was a good debut novel I would recommend but check trigger warnings.

It’s been years since I’ve read Purple Hibiscus, but I remember it to be a good book.
