Unusual and Compelling
I was not sure I would like this book at first. I did not like the main character, Cass. Cass one me over. Cass is ordinary. Anna is ordinary. The ladies that hang by the pool don't seem likeable. I got hooked by the characters relateability. Sometime just managing to get through every day is heroic. There is murder, humor, tragic moments, twists and surprises. I ended up wishing for more.

First book finished in 2025! I enjoyed the cast of characters in this motel. It reminded me a bit of that M Night Shymalon story about the mermaid in the pool.
Just ok. I did want to keep coming back but also found some of the storyline irritating. Why do women have to always be portrayed as such idiots?!?

I so badly wanted to give this book a 5 star rating but I just DREADED Anna’s point of view. She sucked. I loved Cass and her progress as a character and who she became by the end of the book. This book also had some genuinely funny and quirky moments that didn’t feel forced but made the background characters richer and more believable. Babs has my heart forever and ever. The downside was the “bad guy” felt too cartoonishly evil for the story the author was trying to tell, and the ending felt so forced and like “here’s the moral you should get from this story.” It was a fun read overall.

I really enjoyed this book. I had never read anything by this author, nor had I ever heard anything about her. I'm really glad that I decided to listen to this book on a whim. The story sounded interesting, so I thought "why not?" It has quite a collection of characters, but it was easy to keep track of everyone. It wasn't one of those books where there are so many things going on, you can't even follow the story. There were two MCs, Anna and Cass. The story is told through each of their POVs. You know who's POV you're listening to at the start of each new chapter, so that's helpful. I really liked that the ending was not predictable. Sometimes it's annoying when a thriller/mystery book is so predictable, you've got it figured out before the end. Not with this book. I was genuinely surprised, because it was not the person I expected at all! Maybe I'm just naive, who knows lol I will definitely add this author to my watch list, and check out more of her books, because I thought it was written really well.
