All starts when Anna receives a phone call from her distraught husband claiming he killed someone. She doesn’t know what to believe until the police finds Henry’s body washed up on the banks of the Rio Grande.
Cass had the “perfect life” until she didn’t. The guy she thought was her everything ended up cheating on her with a way younger girl kicking her to the curb with only her clothes and car.
Both women have something in common, they are both living in the Sycamores, a run down motel turned into apartments. Anna as the widow of the artist that used to rent an apartment as his art studio and Cass as the manager/handywoman.
This motel has a diversity of residents with their own problems, misfortune and most importantly, secrets, so many secrets. Well, not so secret since the most abundant thing in this place is gossip.

I was pulled out by the story, frequently, by the inauthenticities in the setting. The book takes place in and outside of Santa Fe. Nobody ever sees a mountain, eats a burrito, or does anything else unique to the setting. The two restaurant meals in the book are shrimp and McDonald's (not even a burger with green chile). The one house that is described is mid-century modern. The author lives in Texas? Santa Fe would have made a nice road trip!

Decent story, terrible editing

i really tried to complete this one but the pace was way too slow for me and it was kinda boring tbh :((

Very clever indeed! Kudos to Ms. Glass for a well-developed plot with twisty suspense. This is the first book I've read by this author but now I'm excited to check out her backlist. My thanks to the publisher for providing a review copy of this book via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Though many of my favorite booktubers have recommended her works before, this was my first time reading Seraphina Nova Glass. This is a tense mystery, set mostly at a seedy, roadside motel outside Santa Fe, New Mexico. I absolutely love the cover and feel it fits the story well. There are lots of twists and turns, and I was indeed surprised by the big reveals that compose the climax. I was disappointed by a lack of detail in what characters looked like. It was hard to picture them at times. The ending felt a bit schmaltzy, but overall I really enjoyed this, and I would recommend it to most fans of domestic thrillers. Three and a half out of five!
