3.5 for the audiobook. This was fun and entertaining. I am a sucker for motel, hotel, apartment settings. i also like underdogs and. down and out characters and this is full of those. I couldn’t give it a 4 because the story was a little silly and over the top. But it works if you are ready to suspend disbelief and just go with it.

This book was chosen as book of the month for a thriller group I’m in… def gave me Freida McFadden type of writing vibes. I thought this book was good! Nothing spectacular but good.

Perfectly adequate mystery to read on an airplane. Requisite twisty plot points involving jilted spouses, drug dealers, single moms, and creepy guys living in a converted hotel.

Thanks NetGalley for the copy. It is the stories of two women, each finding themselves in a dilapidated motel turned efficiency apartments. One is forced to live there when her boyfriend kicks her out of their home and leaves her with nothing. In lieu of rent, she becomes the handyman. The other woman gets a call in the middle of the night from her husband apologizing for killing someone before being found dead of an apparent suicide. In an effort to understand why he killed himself and who he murdered, she sells their house and moves into the motel where he used to rent an apartment to do his artwork. As you get to know the quirky characters who also live in the apartments, the two women’s lives become entangled in a dangerous way. This was the first book I’ve read from his author and really enjoyed it. It was fast-paced and intriguing up until the end. I will recommend it on my social media accounts. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC of The Vacancy in Room 10 by Seraphina Nova Glass in exchange for a honest review, I hate when I don't love an ARC. But I really, really, didn't love this book.

Goodreads is full of positive reviews so I have to wonder what is wrong with me, this is a “must read” for 2024 but I was so disappointed in this book. My main annoyance with this book was the "Gotcha" factor. It tries to hard. Instead of just great storytelling unfolding, it has to throw drama in your face to keep you reading... so I kept rage reading to see how it ended.

For the most part, the book is so over the top, maybe that is the appeal, it's a popcorn book, it wasn't awful, it just wasn't good. I didn't care about any of the characters, except Sinatra, and it was all just trying to hard to be shocking and twisty, it was never ending with shock value (undelivered).
