Seraphina Nova Glass has become an auto - buy/read author for me.
This book hooked me from the first page and kept me enraptured until the very last.
This one’s about Anna & Cass who are struggling with the ending of their relationships but in very different ways.. Are the two somehow linked by this seedy motel and if so, how & why?
To not spoil anything I’m going to keep this short and sweet because I think it’s a book best gone into (somewhat) blind.
This one will take you on quite the wild ride and have you questioning everything & everyone you think you know.
The alternating pov’s were so well written that at times you weren’t sure which one you could believe.
If you can handle the content please do yourself a favor and read this one!

This was just a thriller I needed. I felt every bit of filth and grunge described from the Sycamore. The characters were exactly what I would have expected from the seedy location and I loved every second of them. A fantastic read by a new-to-me author.

After thoroughly enjoying On A Quiet Street and The Vanishing Hour, I was highly anticipating The Vacancy in Room 10. One thing I can applaud Nova Glass on is perfectly describing each setting. I could visualize The Sycamore perfectly, smell the smells, hear the sounds, and each place in this lower income community felt unique.
This story was told in two POVs, Cass and Anna. Cass found herself as the apartment handy-woman, trading a place to stay to manage the complex after her big shot realtor husband had an affair and essentially booted her to the curb. Anna arrived at The Sycamore after her husband, Henry, committed suicide, and she decided to stay in his apartment/art studio to not only clean it out, but also see what he saw in this dingy, dirty place.
Unfortunately, this story fell flat. The characters were flat and mostly not likable. I actually couldn’t wait for Anna’s chapters to end because she was so stuck in her own bubble, making assumptions about other characters that didn’t even make sense, and was honestly just rude. All of the characters, other than sweet Frank Sinatra, were not built up enough to become likable to the reader. The plot just kept going in circles with the two women trying put puzzle pieces together on the same puzzle by overly ruminating until they finally came together to find the last piece, which made the pacing so slow and boring, not at all like the other books I’d loved by this author.
Overall, is this a bad read? Not at all. I think a lot of people would like it, but in my opinion, this is my least favorite from Seraphina.

I enjoyed this one! The setting was perfect for me - a motel/apartment building with a bunch of lively tenants. I loved the two narrators. I will say though that it wasn’t unputdownable for me, there were parts of the story that didn’t make sense (a little messy) and parts where it felt like the author just wanted to rush through a twist.
Woof. Gave it a 2 because I didn’t DNF it, but there are a bunch of editing errors, the writing isn’t great, and a few things in the story feel completely random and don’t add anything.
This was a fun little thriller!
The story is told through two POVs: Anna, a grieving widow looking for answers after her husband’s death is ruled a suicide, and Cass, the edgy maintenance manager at the dingy apartment complex where Anna’s husband rented an art studio. As their lives begin to intertwine, it’s clear everyone has a few secrets - and some are deadlier than others.
”The Sycamores is where the broken people live. Everyone is a bit off in their own way. Everyone seems to be filling a void or mourning a deep loss of some kind.”
My favorite character was definitely Rosa. The two FMCs were fine, but her development was the most satisfying. The ‘pool girls’ gave off a chaotic-but-caring found family vibe.
My one complaint was with some clunky or redundant areas where a tinge more editing would have aided the flow.
3.75/5⭐️
