J.R. Ward knows how to keep you totally thrilled by her books. Even though you find multiple little stories of different character within one big stories and all those have a "meet-and-greet" at the end.
From book to book you get deeper inside the Black Dagger Brotherhood. In "Lover Avanged" the main focus is Rehvenge's life, past and present. We all have our little secrets we don't even wanna tell our partners, because we know this could destroy anything. But with Rehvenges' secret past and keeping it from his sister Bella and his love, to protect both of them. Also keeping away information about his "business" life for the same reason. Sometimes you past crosses your way again, especially when your information are in the hands of your "enemies". Unfortunately he failed in keeping it away from his love and he knows it breaks her heart, he only sees one solution to keep the pain and shame away from his sister. His death. But is he really dead?
Also we are able to get closer into the feelings for each other of John and Xhex. One is already a wrack, if it comes to love and tenderness. The other one becomes heart-broken and cold lover, who will never ever get to close to others.

Setelah kecewa berat dengan buku ke 5 Vishous dan ke 6 Phurry, buku Rhevenge seperti sarana JR Ward untuk berbaikan. Buku ini, yang awalnya kupandang sebelah mata karena well.. Rhev bukan BDB, bukan 100 persen vampire, kelakuannya selama ini jelas-jelas opportunis dan tidak ada yang heroik. Tapi aku lupa, dia dan semua potensi buruknya memenuhi kriteria anti hero, dan kandidat Glorious Bastard yang sangat kuat.
Kisah tentang warrior-warrior tangguh yang mampu menghadapi segala rintangan selalu menarik perhatianku. Tapi aku juga menyukai kisah tentang wanita-wanita yang mampu menyelamatkan pria-pria kuat ini.
Yang kusuka disini Rhev tidak hanya tampil hebat dan penuh kuasa, tapi kita juga bisa melihat sisi rapuh dan ketakutan terdalamnya. JR Ward membuat karakter Rhev sangat manusiawi (eh vampirewi). Perasaan tidak berdaya seorang pria kuat untuk menyelamatkan orang-orang terpentingnya, rahasia-rahasia gelapnya, ketakutan-ketakutan terbesarnya, dan rapuhnya kesempatan untuk mendapatkan hal yang paling sederhana dalam hidupnya, cinta sejati dan penghargaan tulus. Rhev bisa membeli apapun, mendapatkan siapapun, memiliki apa saja tapi dia merasa sangat kotor untuk memiliki gadis paling biasa dalam sejarah buku BDB.
Sebelumnya nama Ehlena tak pernah kita kenal. Tapi diakhir buku ini, aku mencintai heroine underdog ini sebesar aku mencintai heroine yang lebih kickass. Aku terkesan melihat metamorfosis Ehlena. Dari seorang gadis miskin dan kesepian yang berjuang sendirian untuk merawat ayah yg sakit parah menjadi pribadi yang kuat, tahan tempa dan pada akhirnya bisa menyelamatkan pria yang dia cintai dan dunia vampire pada umumnya.
Cara bercerita JR Ward masih ala telenovela, tapi buku ini penuh dengan petasan kejutan yang membuatnya berbeda dengan buku BDB lainnya. Dari awal JR Ward seperti merajut jaring laba-laba di sana sini, kelihatan random dan tak fokus. Terpecah pada banyak konflik, perubahan-perubahan di dunia BDB, pergolakan politik penuh intrik dan romance penuh kejutan dari 2 pasangan lain. Tapi di ending, dia merangkai semua menjadi ending indah dan menyentuh perasaan bak trapesary.
Ini adalah buku yang complicated, dark dan membuatku berpikir, tapi ini juga romantis, intens dan bisa menyentuh spot lemahku. Buku ini membuatku kembali memasuki masa mendamba seperti saat membaca buku Z.

Honestly it's just the same old trashy vampire novel I always love and can't get enough of. I will always love Wards twist on a vampire world. I am so glad that she keeps introducing new characters and now new species to keep the series from getting dull. I do suggest reading this series to any vampire fan.

Okay, why did Phury have to phone in his conversation with the Brothers about Wrath going back to fighting? They can teleport. So confused.
Also, why, why in the world do these bad ass cold stone killer vampires say things like "I'm outtie?" Most of the slang I can handle, them sounding like extras out of Clueless I cannot.
Also also, I still don't like John Matthew's emotional journey in this book, from hopeful adorable innocent to angry emotionless jerk in five pages or less. I get it, but I loved him the way he was before.
That said, I liked this a lot better the second time around. I can't remember all the things I disliked about it the first time, but it is LOADS better than Phury's book, if only because you bothered to develop Elehna as a character, which you never really bothered to do with Cormia. And you showed a lot more of the romance and a lot less of a main character's slow descent into ODing, so that was good. I don't mind that they've turned more into urban fantasy than straight up romance novels, but I do still enjoy an actual romance.
So. Yes. Still solid.

Liked this one a lot more than previous installements! I think this is mostly due to new plot lines being added and old ones being expanded! Tbh this series is so much fun?? Don’t know what I just dropped it for a couple months
Main couple was cute, but eh. Individually they were great, and as a couple they were cute, I was just so invested in everyone else’s plot. Except Lash. Lash can choke. Really loved Xhex and John as well as Wrath’s new plot line!
Super excited for the next book!!
Things I didn’t like:
Some of the language is very dated and a lot of parts were kinda icky, and in general it’s kinda weird that there isn’t much focus on the girls,, also? The subplot with the heroine’s dad was pretty much dropped at the end which was weird?? Also?? The more I think about it the more I’m weirded out by the doggens. Unless there’s a book that focuses on one, I’ll continue to feel really weird about them.
This books is VERY HEAVY. There are a lot of content warnings. Here’s all the ones I can think of, I’ll update if I remember more.
Bulimia & general disordered eating, death of a loved one, drugs (abuse and just in general, Rehv is a dealer so it’s very front and central),sexual assault and rape, incest, self harm, several scenes that trigger arachnophobia, illnesses in a loved one, abuse (spousal)
