ani jsem netušila, jak moc se mi knižka bude líbit, ale byla úžasná!!

Honestly I skimmed a lot of this book. The side plots weren't interesting, and I starting skimming through anything that wasn't about Xhex and John Matthew. THEIR story was good. A little less developed than previous romances perhaps, towards the end anyway. Granted, they've been a slow burn for the past several books so maybe the author felt the need to make them fall real hard and fast at the end. But, it just felt like Xhex suddenly gave in to literally everything that would give them the happiest and most perfect ending, very suddenly. Then again, perhaps that does fit with her personality. Anyway, I was pretty disappointed with this book considering the build-up to it has literally been in the past 4 books.

What can I say about Rehv, oh Rehv you sexy beast lol. This book is amazing beyond words, I felt so bad for Rehv but at the end he got his HEA and I was so happy. I could sit and read this book over and over again . Elena is the perfect girl for Rehv she is understanding and loves him even with all his imperfection and that made me like her even more. If you read this book you would not be disappointed.

My heart broke for Rehv. Maybe even moreso then Z when I read Lover Awakened. Where Z is fighting his demons from the past, Rehv is still living his nightmare and fighting living demons.
I also loved the setup for Xhex and mine hellren John Matthew for the next book. Can't wait to read it.
These books have really pulled me in, and I can't seem to read anything else until I finish the series up until now.

I have to admit after listening to this book again, although I love Rehv and Ehlena and his story, this book as a whole is not one of my favorites out of the series. The part with Rehv and the Princess honestly kind of bore me, although I do sympathize for Rehv.

On a side note, did anyone notice that the date Ehlena was supposed to have towards the beginning of the book was named Stefan? Ehlena and Stefan? Sound familiar?
challenging dark medium-paced

I have always liked the character of Rev. The story lived up to what I expected and the deepening of the overarching plot has me excited to see where the next book goes.

So, five or so years ago I plowed through the first 6 books in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I never reviewed them here, but I heard the siren song of JR Ward calling again and I've decided to just pick up where I left off. I didn't want to reread the other books, which may have been a mistake as there are definitely whole characters, plot devices, and world elements I don't remember at all, but screw it, in for a penny, in for a pound. Here we go!

A quick ranking of the earlier books:

Dark Lover - I'm intrigued by your ghetto-wannabe vampires and their babypowder smelling nemisi, tell me more.

Lover Eternal - Oh, a vampire who doesn't spend all day in a deep brood and wears flipflops instead of the requisite "shitkickers", I like, I like.

Lover Awakened - On the other hand, I am a lady and, next to yogurt and shoes, nothing we bitches like more than fixing men! Bring me your tortured, self-mutilating, vampiric messes so I may domesticate them. Also, I think this is my favorite in the series simply because I love saying his name with a crazy German accent - Zee Sadist!

Lover Revealed - Wait, Butch isn't getting with V?

Lover Unbound - Wait, V is ending up with a ghost???

Lover Enshrined - Ugh. SHUT. UP. PHURY. /rage quits the series.

And that's where we were sometime in 2009.

Four Years Later...

Bottom line - this is the 7th book in the BDB series. You know what you're in for at this point. You either honestly love JR Ward's writing or you honestly love the lulz. What did I think? If you can learn to ignore the awful dialogue, the ohsotorutured heroes, the dishrag female leads, the continued existence of Doc Jane, the super ineffective villains, the drugs and the pimping,
Spoilerthe incest (that was a new low for the series, book, so thanks for that),
the casual use of rape as a subplot for basically every character, and the more than borderline offensiveness that is a byproduct of crazy, rich white lady trying to appropriate thug life... wait, I lost my train of thought, where was I going with this?

Right, so if you can get passed all that, Rehv and Ehlena's story isn't bad. In fact, despite being a horrible human vampire being, Rehv seems to genuinely care for Ehlena and Ward goes out of her way to build their emotional connection. Plus, Tohr is finally pulling his head out of his ass. And I still don't really care about Lassiter at all, but Mary makes an appearance - who knew she was still around? And V and Butch have a couple bromance moments. And Zsadist is all over this freaking book. Oh, and OMG, Wrath and Beth have a very interesting subplot throughout. And Blay continues to make the puppydog eyes at Qhuinn, while John decides to descend into the omgsotortured attitude as his book is up next!

Basically, these books are crack. I can no longer deny my slavish desire for a hit from the crazy pipe. As the Brothers would say: End of.

Is it bad I was more invested in Wrath and John/Xhex's issues than I was Rhev and Ehlena?

This was probably my least favorite of all the BDB series. It was still good and worth reading, but it did not captivate me the way the previous ones did.
