Man, what an intense, keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat read! Overall, defiantly a good book! And, once again, Ward has managed to keep a smorgasbord of minor-plots within a book all completely relevant.
While there were not as many minor plots within this book as there were in Ward's other Black Dagger Brotherhood, there were a few. Continuing with John's story, along with Xhex, this specific minor plot was intense. A lot of chemistry and high powered emotions ran through the two of them throughout the book, and while John's intimacy issues are somewhat resolved, the emotional issues between John and Xhex are so nearly dealt with. In fact, beings that the book ends with a major cliffhanger of Xhex being taken prisoner by Lash in the final chapters, the love story between the two has more to give...on a side note, though, I must admit I was totally, completely shocked when John discovered Xhex sympath nature, which doesn't bother him at all.
The other subplot deals, of course, with Lash. Beings that he was a vampire-turned-Omega's-child, this story line actually tied in seamlessly with the sympath ordeal between Rehvenge and his "princess." Culminating in a final showdown at the sympath colony, where the Brothers and Ehlena stage a rescue mission for Rehvenge's capture, it actually turns out that Lash falls- in a twisted sick kinda way- in love with Rehv's blackmailer. Like the previous plot, this one too goes unfinished. While the princess sympath does indeed die, the story of evil, baddie Lash and his grotesque existence still continues, and will do so into the next book no doubt.
The primary story, that of Ehlena and Rehvenge, was explosive. Meeting up at the hospital where Ehlena works, the two are polar opposites who can't stay away from each other. Testing out each other by a round of phone-play first, the story escalates into a passionate story, and one that really makes things interesting.
Overall, awesome. Simply, awesome...but, if I were to credit the book- or series for that matter- with any negativity, it would by my criticism that Ward utilizes the G-D word WAY too much. Using it once is bad enough, but it's pretty heavily prevalent through the series.
Although, while I do indeed hate this fact...it's still a great book, and series!

I love, love, love Ward, her Brotherhood and being lost in their Vampire world. ON TO Lover Mine!!!
interweaving plot lines, with characters of some depth.

Couldn't finish. Blargh... I'm so over this series. I've been trying and trying but I just can't take it anymore.

I really liked this book. I guess I have a thing for the underdogs because I've always been drawn to Rehv and Xhex. SO, I enjoyed learning more of their history and back story.
I can't really say much more without giving away some of the plot lines. I will say that this was the darkest book of the series, even moreso than Z's book.

Lover Avenged felt like one of those books that, when you finish it, makes you shrug and say "that was good" and then instantly move on to something else. Nothing shook me to my core but it was still an entertaining story. I don't have enough to say about this one to do a full comprehensive review, but I did still enjoy it.
Most of the drama was interesting, the characters are complex as always, and the plot moved forward at a decent pace. The only thing that bugged me a little was the massive number of POVs. If we had a couple less perspectives, I think this book would've been a bit easier to swallow. I still liked it regardless and look forward to continuing the series anyway.

I read the first books in this series around 5 years ago. I thought that I'd take another peek at the brotherhood. The books are well-written and suspenseful. They're just too dark and gritty for my taste.
****UPDATE 4/1/20: SO.DAMN.GOOD! Like really good. I whole heartedly agree with past me's assessment. Read this book and prepare to fall even deeper in love with the Black Dagger Brotherhood.****
Honestly, Rehvenge's story was the one I was interested in the least, I was just reading to continue through the series. Damnit if I wasn't wrong. This has been my favorite book so far! It isn't just Rehvenge's POV, it is Wrath's as well as a bunch of others. Just read it, you will not be sorry.
