This book is weird. I liked the first story with the challenges with the car. The second story is super weird. The third story is boring. Weird, weird book.

I don’t know I was just really bored. I’m sure it gets better, i didn’t love life of pi until I reread it, but I don’t have the mental space to continue with it right now

I loved this book -- the three separate yet connected stories, the style of writing, the suspension of disbelief, the cross-over between humans and animals.

This book through me for a loop and I had to think really hard and re-read some parts after I finished it just to connect parts of the different story lines. However, Yann Martel writes beautifully and has the ability to transport you into his books.

the plot was bizarre but shockingly consistent for continuity. i was going to give it a 3 but the ending was so strange and fitting that i loved it. what a weird book. even the life of pi had nothing on this in terms of pure absurdity. this is one of the most eccentric books i've ever read. there were some scenes i really disliked, and some scenes that were grotesque and fascinating. in a word: weird (but also good).

This book was beautifully written, very entertaining, and at times, mesmerizing. Magical, but deep. The stories were very funny at times, and at others, shocking. Martel's writing is rich in symbolism and creates vivid pictures. On a deeper level, Martel makes you think about the big questions of life: the nature of humanity, the purpose of life, our relationship to the animal kingdom, faith and hope. It's amazing because he gets you thinking by the telling of a story, that at many points, is absurd and silly. This story will stick with me for a long time.
