I cannot wait to start the next book! If this story is any indication of how the men in this family are, I will enjoy listening to all of them. I really enjoyed getting to know Emily and Barrett. I loved the history behind their relationship, from baby to adult. I thought this was endearing and made the story that much more heartwarming. The way Emily and Barrett interacted, and the way she was able to harness his rough edges made this story a wonderful listen. Katy Regnery has a winning series on her hand!

I also want to mention that Lauren Sweet did a wonderful narration. Love her!

I love Barrett, he is super sweet but he hides it well. Emily is sweet and is Barrett's perfect match. They were made for each other but they just need to admit how they feel about each other. Barrett makes a few mistakes by treating Emily like a business deal rather than a relationship but it all works out in the end.

So yesterday I gave a half arsed review on this book so I decided to write a proper review. My first book by this author was The Vixen and the Vet and I loved it so much.

Breaking up with Barrett is the first book in the English Brothers Series. I have a soft spot for the whole brother thing.
Emily Edwards has known the English family since she has been a baby. Barrett held her as a baby at the age of 8 and even then she took a piece of his heart. Emily has had a crush on Barrett since she has been 14 and that crush turned into more. Slight issue in the world of prestige and money, Emily’s parents are the help. Her father is the gardener and her mother is the housekeeper.

Barrett approaches Emily as he needs a fake fiancé to help him with business and well Emily as a post graduate needs the money. Barrett is also known as the shark due to his dealings and no time for fun and games. He is also very intense and a bulldozer of a guy.

This is a no nonsense romance and because of that I found it a quick read. There is fun and banter and we get to meet some of the other brothers.

Next on the agenda is Falling for Fitz.

Fierce businessman MMC turns into a puppy dog around the FMC who he’s loved for most of his life…what’s not to love? The cherry-on-top was Emily’s emotional maturity.

Even though this was a dual POV book, I enjoyed reading this book from Barrett's POV because his feelings for Emily never wavered as he remembered growing up together, watching out for her as she grew up to be a beautiful and smart woman. It was a very good read and I highly recommend it!!

Dear Readers,
I wonder if you're getting sick of my Katy Regnery reviews yet? I think I could copy and paste the beginning of each one to the next because I always begin with telling you that this is my new favorite. I say it because I mean it, 100% percent do I mean it. So...Barrett English and Emily Edwards are my absolute favorite of Katy's characters so far!
Now that we have that out of the way...
I want to describe this as a friends to lovers book but that doesn't really cover it because Barrett and Emily have known eachother since Emily was born and I'm not even sure if I could classify them as friends. Their family's friendship's go back generations. The English's are the wealthy, well-respected family and the Edwards, the help. For basically their whole lives, Emily and Barrett have harbored feelings for each other but neither have ever let on to anyone else that the feelings exist. Then one day, Barrett approaches Emily with a proposition. He will pay her $100 p/hour to play his fiance at business related events. She needs money for rent and bills so she can hardly turn it down. Plus it doesn't hurt that she'll get to spend time with him.
They quickly discover that playing the part of a happy couple is something they want to make real, but in an effort to hold onto Emily, Barrett makes a decision that he'll have to keep secret from her. Business and personal lines are crossed and secrets are revealed. Emily's maturity and level-head are what makes this story truly great but my favorite thing is that not once does Barrett worry about him and Emily being from "different worlds", in fact there is a moment where it's brought up and the way he deals with it almost brought me out of my chair, I was so impressed!! *picture me as an audience member on The Arsenio Hall show waiving my fist and whooping*
If you're looking for a story full of angst and drama, you'll need to look elsewhere. If you're looking for a true love story a lifetime in the making then pick this book up now!!!
Falling for the English, one brother at a time,
Jaime

So Sweet

With the first book in a series, solid groundwork must be laid for the remaining books to stand firmly on. This book did just that. The characters were nicely fleshed out and played big enough parts so that their personalities were revealed, prepping us for the other books.

Aside from that, it was also an incredibly sweet read. Barrett and Emily were practically made for each other. I love how he was so sure of himself and what he wanted. Unlike most romance novels where the guy spends most of the book learning how he feels about his love interest, Barrett knew from the moment he first saw Emily (I couldn't help but to "awww" at that point). I also love the fact that even though they weren't considered to be in the same class (financially speaking), he never let that stand in his way. (Insert "awww" here.) Oh! Let's not forget about the steamy bits! While I've read hotter, it was still steamy enough to make me salivate (just a little... no puddles were made lol).

So, if you're looking for a sweet and romantic read, this one's for you.

Barrett English always gets what he wants, always gets the deal he's after but with Emily he doesn't know where he stands. He knows that she needs money for school so he thinks she'd be the perfect fake fiancee, he'll pay her to play the part of the woman that he loves. It's not too far of a stretch though, because he's loved her for as long as he can remember her being around. He just doesn't think she sees him that way.

Emily Edwards has always been fascinated by Barrett. He was one of the English brothers, the oldest and he was always the one she loved the most. When she was faced with his proposition she said yes because she did need the money but mostly it was because of Barrett. She enjoyed spending the time with him. After a while though, she feels like it's never going to go anywhere, like she's always going to be on the sidelines with him, she breaks off the 'engagement'.

Barrett is shocked, a few minutes before she was telling his business associates how he proposed, showing him that she may have feelings for him as well and the next she was telling him their engagement was over. They had shared their first kiss, and now she was gone. He had to get her back. So he does what he does best and brings out the Shark, but he realizes that sometimes he can't bully things to his will.

I loved Barrett and Emily's story. Once they stopped fighting each other and started listening to their hearts it was so lovely. Even when they were fighting each other it was a great story. I enjoyed it all so much and I couldn't put it down. It was a fast and easy read. Check out these books, you won't be disappointed!

This is a standard short sweet story. The story is super simple. A rich man falls for his garderner's daughter. The character development is sufficient for short novella to make it work. Minimum angst. Minimum drama.

Enjoyable reading.
