I don’t have words to describe this book. It was both tragic and fascinating—I could not put it down. I would definitely recommend it to others to read.

This book does such a good job of juggling narrative and commentary. I laughed and I cried. I found the themes very relevant and the individual stories were very thought provoking.

Wow. What an amazing book. Such a personal insight into life in North Korea. It makes the tragedy so vivid and highlights such a uniquely human element that is always missing from news reports. It is amazingly written and I found myself reading and not being able to stop. The stories were just so well portrayed. Truly excellent. If you have any interest in North Korea or what life is like there I couldn't recommend this book more.
