Amusing and cute, but not up to Evanovich's best.

Why yes, I am reading a Christmas book in July. Normal is boring.

I've heard a lot of people who have said they don't enjoy the Between-the-Numbers books as much as the normal series. This is the first one I've read, but I actually thought it was funnier than any of the other Stephanie Plum books I've read. Maybe there's just something about mean, rioting midgets little people that really gets my motor running.

A Christmas tale including some of your favorite characters. One good thing is it's only 164 pages and can be read in minimal time.

I enjoyed this, but agree with a lot of other reviewers that the supernatural did not really belong. I'm pretty sure it won't come into play except these short in between books, so I don't understand. I am glad she did a spin off series with Diesel though.

Strange spin off but I liked it!

This goes beyond formulaic. Strange man in Stephanie's apartment - check. Car burns - check. Stephanie blunders a capture - check. Rushed resolution of weak plot - check. I have to wonder if she just cuts and pastes, then changes names... three more novellas and I'm done with this series. Not sure I'll be reading 19 when it ever comes out.

I love this series, but this book is so hard to get through! I don't like how she made a magical character appear. I tried to skip this book, but when I read book #9 I realized I missed info from this book. I wish I had rented this from the library, rather than foolishly spending money on it.

This was the first of a between the numbers side series to the Stephanie Plum books. In this book a minor supernatural element is introduced into the story- people with super powers. Stephanie is introduced to Diesel who is the super-powered equivalent of a bounty hunter who offers his help in finding Stephanie's Failed-to Appear knowing that his own target won't be far away. Set at Christmas time Stephanie's FTA is a toy-maker with a workshop filled with "little people" dressed as elves...very angry elves, prompting a return appearance by Randy Briggs. At first, the introduction of the supernatural element was a bit off-putting since it was out of the initial parameters of very normal New Jersey. However, the same hijinks and hilarity that make the main series fun are running wild and rampant through the side series as well.

I love the Stephanie Plum novels but dislike any author who tries to hop on this supernatural bandwagon/hype. There was no reason to bring anything supernatural to the Plum world. Her stories were cute and sassy but this one was stupid and pointless.
