I really enjoyed this! It had lots of things I go for: magic, strong female characters, excitement, drama, and, most importantly plenty of humour.

Alex is the perfect combination of strong, kick-ass heroine, and slightly messed up troubled girl. She deals with her problems through action, and in this case those actions get her enough trouble to keep anyone occupied for a good long while.

The supporting characters in this are a bit outside the norm for paranormal fiction, both in species, and in behaviour. The magical law enforcement team was a neat idea, and it works really well for the plot. I liked learning about different magical characters, and seeing how they deal with magical law-breaking. The supporting characters in this book were as engaging as our main protagonist, at times, even more so.

The story was also great. It drew me in easily, as the action begins literally as soon as you start reading, and the pace was good. Just enough balance between plot action and character development to keep both rolling along smoothly.

I had previously read Hallaway's Garnet Lacey series, and while I enjoyed that as well, this is a very different style and feel, much more urban and gritty in terms of the action and the behaviour of the characters. I liked it a lot though.

I loved the way Alex develops throughout this book, as well as the world the author's created here. I really hope that more books are planned for these characters. I would definitely read more about both!

Somewhat better than a waste of time.

I found this book to be an easy, quick read but ultimately not very satisfying. It was more of a light snack rather than a hearty meal. If it proceeds as a series I doubt that I'll follow it.

I am really loving urban fantasy at the moment and Precinct 13 was really good in satisfying my hunger for more urban fantasy.
I really liked the world in this book, it was our world but there were people who didn’t believe in magic and others who didn’t. Tate introduced a theory that could possibly explain how the magic works in that world and I thought that was quite interesting.
I really liked Alex, I thought she was pretty cool. I liked her friends/co-workers in the book too. Jack, Valentine, Devon and Stone all hold a special place in my heart because they are all just so awesome! I have to say that the mystery surrounding Valentine had me really intrigued for quite a while too.
The mystery in the book was very interesting because like Alex, I really wanted to know what on earth was going on and I found it interesting the way that things were handled. I found the mystery of this one to be different to other mysteries as you kind of already knew who the bad guy was you just didn’t know where to find him or how any bizarre events fit together.
It saddens me that there will be no more books in the series as I really enjoyed Precinct 13 and thought it was a great start to a promising series. Either way, the book works well as a stand-alone as well so I strongly recommend this one!

Liked it more than I thought I would. Liked how the heroine brings science to magic. Her mythbuster experiment with the cow contraption and bobcat/tractor thing was hilarious. Go dragons and the power of curse words.

Fun and easy to read. The premise of a medical examiner who investigates the unusual circumstances surrounding the small town is enjoyable. The plot twists are obviously foreshadowed in the book, so I knew what was coming long before it occurred. The main character is a little silly at times but is overall likeable.

I didn't realize this was a romance book when I ordered it from the library, and likely wouldn't have gotten had I known. The romance is cute but nothing titillating occurs mere soft touches on the cheek and allusions to sexy time. Not that I would have preferred that it border on erotica but I suppose with it being categorized as romance it was odd that there was no actual sex in the book.

All that being said, I liked the book and would read more by this author when I'm in the need of something fluffy.
