Whoa. This book had me hooked like my first read of "Fourth Wing." I loved the character development, the foreshadowing, and the new spin on vampires vs. Wolves. Meryn felt like a well-rounded, imperfect FMC. Her one-track mind was a little frustrating at times because it was clear there was something she was missing -- and that's part of what hooked me! Not only did she have to overcome physical challenges but also mental ones. I also think the authors did well addressing the complexities of grief and how people's responses can vary so much. If you're looking for something with "Fourth Wing" vibes, with likeable side characters, an epic antagonist, mental health representation, and a mixture of predictable and unpredictable plot twists, check out "Direbound." I cannot wait to continue the saga!

A bit predictable in some ways and yet other twists and turns were surprising. Bordered a little heavy on the spicy level rather than the plot but after finishing the book, I get why and hoping the next one maybe has a bit more plot and development focus instead.

The writing is flat, the sex scenes are unnecessary, the characters are unlikable and the "twist" is so obvious it's insulting. It was a frustrating if entertaining read for the first 60% and then just awful.
