Ideas were good, execution was mid. It was a little too predictable to the point that I felt like all the characters were just oblivious. But the potential is there and I liked the family dynamics.

DNF for me. The writing? Painful. The main character? Annoying beyond belief. The plot? Just a chaotic mash of tropes. The characters have the depth of a kiddie pool at best. And don’t even get me started on the romance—the chemistry between the main girl and her two love interests is nonexistent. There was one scene with a tattoo that was supposed to be hot and sexy but honestly just made me feel sick. Maybe fine if you’re brand new to the genre, but if you’ve been around the block as a reader—trust me, keep moving.

I really wanted to like this book (I love mind bonded creatures! I love fantasy worlds! I love Pack as a concept! Found familyyyyy!!!) and maybe that is why I am so disappointed. There was so much potential here! And then instead of it being fun, I found myself frustrated at basically every authorial choice. I think I understand what they were trying to do, but the longer the story went the less I liked Meryn and the more I wished that if this story was the one they wanted to tell that it was from someone else's point of view. A book where

it turns out your king is evil?? And the girl you didn't like who didn't even want to be bonded is actually your queen?? After she basically spat on everything you wanted to be?? And now she wants you to follow her??? THAT would be a fun book
