This is a tough one. Cibola Burn is a book that touches on a lot of different and interesting things, and while it occasionally can feel a bit disjointed, that ultimately is far less of a problem than how safe the plot of the book ultimately plays out, particularly after teasing so much tension and danger on the new frontier being explored. It's as reliably entertaining a book as I've come to expect from the series, but it lacks the balls to live up to the full potential of its premise and is weaker as a result.
