Μικρή κάμψη στη σειρά, ελπίζω προσωρινή…
Η ανθρωπότητα έχει πλέον χιλιάδες εξωπλανήτες στη διάθεσή της για να τους εποικήσει και να τους αξιοποιήσει, αλλά φυσικά, πρέπει να τα κάνει μπάχαλο στην πρώτη κιόλας απόπειρα.
Το πλήρωμα του (ιδιόκτητου πλέον) Ροσινάντε είναι εδώ για να μεσολαβήσει ανάμεσα στους πρώτους εποίκους ενός πλανήτη και την υπερβολικά επιθετική ασφάλεια της εταιρίας RCE (Royal Charter Energy) που διεκδικεί τον πλανήτη και τις τεράστιες ποσότητες λιθίου που κρύβει.
Τα πράγματα θα ξεφύγουν, το πρωτομόριο και ο αγαπημένος Μίλερ θα είναι κι αυτοί εκεί για να δώσουν ένα χεράκια, αλλά το αποτέλεσμα είναι κατώτερο των τριών βιβλίων που προηγοήθηκαν. Πέρα από τους χαρακτήρες της ομάδας Χόλντεν που πλέον είναι δεδομένοι και κλισαρισμένοι και ξέρεις πάντα τι να περιμένεις από αυτούς, έχουμε μια φρέσκια φουρνιά δισδιάστατων και μάλλον άχρωμων χαρακτήρων που δεν ενθουσιάζουν από πλευράς βάθους. Ιδίως ο παράφρων επικεφαλής της ασφάλειας της RCE, είναι καρικατούρα διεθφαρμένου σερίφη της άγριας δύσης.
Η πλοκή έχει σκαμπανεβάσματα, λες και οι συγγραφείς αμήχανα προσπαθούν να πετάξουν στο κεφάλι των πρωταγωνιστών μας ολοένα και περισσότερες δυσκολίες και γρίφους για να λύσουν, όχι όμως με τις καλοζυγισμένες κλιμακώσεις που μας είχαν μέχρι στιγμής συνηθίσει. Τις αρχικές εντάσεις και δολοφονίες, θα ακολουθήσει ένα χάος, μια πλανητικού μεγέθους καταστροφή, μια… μαζική τύφλωση, γενικώς ό, τι βρήκαμε στο ταγάρι με τις πληγές του Φαραώ το πετάμε στην ιστορία και μετά έχουμε την απαίτηση από εξωβιολόγους και Ροσινάντες να το λύσουν.
Δεν είναι ακριβώς απογοητευτικό, αλλά μάλλον κατώτερο από τα στάνταρ που η ίδια η σειρά έθεσε για τον εαυτό της.
Στο τέλος, κλείνει το μάτι για τη συνέχεια, η οποία ελπίζω να κινηθεί σε άλλα μήκη κύματος…

I love the expanse series and this, the fourth, is a good addition to the series but felt a little less up to par with the others. Not that it isn't good, it is, but some of the characters' motivations, especially the engineers/militia in the second half aboard the Israel ... some of it felt a bit much. Even so I love coming back to these folks (then when done, catching up to see how they translate it to the screen) and this is by far one of my absolute favorite sci-fi series.

I've heard the fifth book is good, but I have to take a break from this series as my disappointment and disgust have almost ruined it for me.

This book has cured my reading slump! The only short coming it had was Basia chapters were my least favourite ones and I couldn't wait till we get North and when we got there it was over in 2 chapters.
Naomi parts were the best for me. And I love how she shined as XO in this book. Holden / Amos parts were really good too but I wish they were shorted and we left for North sooner.
Elvi were alright. Her fangirling over Holden was relatable but tad annoying. His heart belongs to Naomi ahem!
And finally... Why Havelock stole this book from the Rock crew? He was the best part of this book and I'm so angry it took me ages to figure out he was Millers ex partner until it was pointed out. Ugh..... I wish there was a book on Wacky Adventures of Havock and Miller on Ceres.
This book would be 5/5 if we left for North sooner. Spent longer there and cut Basia chapters short.

Elvi and Murtry are completely ridiculous. They were laughably bad.
